:mad China strikes again!

So I was making chai tea concentrate to consume later. It was ready, so I strained it, then poured it into my new dollar store plastic beverage bottle. I turn away to empty the dishwasher while it cools, and turn back to find my bottle melting! Luckily it tipped itself into the sink, or I would have had tea everywhere!

So yeah, dollar store bottles are apparently not rated for hot beverages. sigh.

Yes, and I use it for the cheap crap that I will replace sooner rather than later. I just didn't expect it to be quite this soon!

It's not thin! I bought it because it was quite a sturdy bottle with good thickness to it.

I agree, Dollar store stuff is crap, especially since the dollar is falling and worth as much as toilet paper basically.

What makes you think silicon can't be ionised?

Is it really such a revelation that a store filled with things that cost a stinking dollar is full of crap. Of course it is, but that's why it's fun to shop there sometimes.

Well, it looked like the best of the bunch there...

I know, I know. If I had bought the right thing the first time, it would probably have been cheaper. arg.

The cheap comes out expensive.

I vote for a thermos, that way your hot stuff stays hot and your cold stays cold. BTW make sure you pre rinse it with either hot or cold before you add your liquid of same temp type you pre rinsed with. (hot for hot, cold for cold) That way it warms or cools the barrier in advance. Typically I will fill my thermos with hot water and let it sit while I make my tea then dump it right when I am ready to fill. This gives me extra hot time, upwards of 8 hours.

After the recall in August of millions of Chinese-made toys containing lead paint, 65 percent of Americans said they are making an effort to avoid buying products made in China, according to a Gallup poll conducted that month. In the same poll, 64 percent indicated they would pay up to twice as much for a product made in the United States instead of a similar Chinese-made product.
