    movies today

I have a general question about movie theatres.

Tonight I went to the movies 9:40pm movie couple big stars, movie isn't important, about 5 people were in the movie theatre. This is the other movie theatre in the city, not a super huge city, but younger popular city 55,000 people. This was the movies that were 5 weeks old+ that were 1/2 price.

But why only 5 people? I see that all the time in movie theatres these days. I am 30 years old now, when I was 16 or 17, a movie theatre on Saturday night at 9:40pm would easily be 1/2 full on a bad night, 50-60 people at least, what happened?

My theory is that there are so many more choices of things to do for entertainment.

Xbox, Wii, playstation, internet, tv, cable, satellite, DVD, blockbuster, redboxdvd, and many more, it's almost like it's so diversified.

What are others thoughts? Have they noticed attendance at movie theatres over the last few years way down?

I think with plasma and lcd tv,blue ray and surround sound. You can create the theatre experience at home. Also the amount of crap hollywood puts out and at 9.50 a ticket. It turns alot of people off.

Maybe they are watching it online! There are many forums that gives you links of the newest movies.. I mean the whole movie.. Save you more money and time..

This will kill the theater in half......

I think the movie industry sees this too, as there have been some movies on DVD within 45 days of their theatrical release.

HDNet did something where they released a movie in the theatres, on their channel, for download and on DVD all in the same day. Something along this line is probably more of what is in store for folks who watch movies.

          Spend you some brain.

Ticket prices aside - movie theatres I've been to awhile ago overcharge for crappy popcorn and soft drinks, too. If memory serves, it was about $40 bucks (admission and snacks) for the wife and I to see a movie.

And then we had to sit through at least 10-12 commercials and movie trailers before the movie actually started. I almost forgot the title of the movie I was there to see.

The theatre was only 1/3rd full - mostly kids 'n teenagers who wouldn't shut up during the movie.

These days we just rent DVDs and watch'em at home on the Sony theatre downstairs.

Some people make too much noise in the theatres.

Theaters used to be an experience and an outing, owners lost the appeal and the customers.
