Well here is the stuff they have been working on. Sounds OK, but hard to tell when it's live.

New Metallica song 1

New Metallica song 2

BTW, those sound NOTHING like what Metallica used to be. Some brushed up variations on their St. Anger style, AT BEST.

NOTHING like Orion, Damage Inc., Dyers Eve and other of those priceless classics.

I'd say I'm disappointed, but that would be an understatement.

Fuck it, I'm gonna play the old stuff right now, to cheer me up.

I have been watching Metallica videos on YouTube off and on all day. haha Just watch Cliff play Orion. I wanted to cry. They need him so bad.

I think they will do it. It's in them. You don't lose talent like that. You can get blinded for a while and misguide yourself but it is always in your soul. I think someone just needs to give them a good ol' fashion ass whipping. Bring them back to the garage and play.

Listening to Orion right now. "There can be only one!"

Seeing/listening to that new crap seriously depressed me. :(

Yep, it's the whole point. To make money and get laid a lot. That's the truth:2 cents:

But I totally agree that they watered down their sound (compromised it tremendously) and lost their original fan base in the process. Their choice...

smutnut 10-27-2007 03:48 PM

I think Metallica got it right a long time ago. That's why you know who they are right now.

clifffff

Drake 10-27-2007 05:18 PM

If they do put out something that goes back to their roots (doubtful for more reasons than just that their aging arthritic fingers aren't as nimble anymore), it'll likely be a one-off album. A treat for their initial fans but not something to expect for each album thereafter. Why? They're middle-aged businessmen now.

The fact is that their 'sellout' album was the one that sold the most, and allowed them to buy the fancy cars, big houses, and have their pick of pretty girls worldwide. That's why after that album we got more of the same - songs that were weaker, shorter, and more radio friendly. I feel they'll make a business decision based upon on how sales of albums since then have been, and what they expect today's music buyer will buy. Their albums now sell to more than one generation of listeners; there are even young listeners who prefer their newer stuff (lol).

They're not hungry teens anymore. They're parents and used to a luxurious lifestyle. They're going to do what they think will put more money in their pocket.

I do not think much of that is true.
The music is in them they can do it, over the years they have just opted not to do what thier fans have expected.

Hungry teens has little to do with any of it, they got talent and I am sure Hammet could still play blasting solo's like he did, if not better today if the band and producers gave em a chance.

TTiger 10-28-2007 01:22 AM

napster kill metallica some year ago

Makis77 10-28-2007 02:48 AM

i wish they can, still they r one of the greatest Metal bands from the States.
I started listening to them at the age of 11....and still do :D

slavdogg 10-28-2007 04:47 AM

they need a new base player
we cant bring cliff back, but Jason is clearly missing on the new stuff

slavdogg 10-28-2007 04:54 AM

slavdogg 10-28-2007 04:58 AM

cabby just told me they're playing tomorrow in mountain view
and they're opening their set with "Orion"
imagine that !

SinisterStudios 10-28-2007 05:57 AM

It all went downhill after cliff died, as i have always said if cliff didnt die metallica would have still been good.

MrPinks 10-28-2007 08:18 AM

Ding Ding....we have a winner. He needs to stop singing and go back to the metal sound. He sounds too fucking happy and cheerful singing.

Nope, Metallica still delivered when Jason was around. C'mon, despite his bass play being overpowered on Justice, it was a kickass production. Black album, different, but still godly. Oh and the genius that was S&M. Re-/Load may be softer and more rockish, but still much better than their latest album.

St. Anger just makes me want to slit my wrists in agony.

MrPinks 10-28-2007 08:59 AM

sharpen up your razor because I think the new album will be more of the same shit.

I don't think it was Cliff that made them what they were, they were just a kick ass band. Flotsam and Jetsam was bad ass too, so it's not like Jason came from Simon and Garfunkel or anything. I think like someone else said, their mainstream breakout album made them so much money they wanted to keep it going.

Well, theyre fucking loaded now so they should go back to making long, hard ass fucking songs. If they dont' get it on this one though, might as well hang up their guitar picks.:Oh crap

Andy Servers4Less 10-29-2007 10:07 AM

Yeah unfortunately they did say that before St. Anger too. Cool video of Metallica w/ Guns N Roses playing in a club. Axl stage diving etc:

I doubt it, they lost a lot of their fans when they went after Napster. Maybe their sound will be like what it was, but their fans aren't want they were

tony286 10-29-2007 10:31 AM

I think its hard to do angry music, once your rich.

I agree 100%

They can never return to their roots because they are too far removed from when they were young and angry.

They have evolved too much to create the music that defined them.

That's not to say that I wouldn't still see them live, cuz they can still rock!

Sick Bastard 10-29-2007 01:20 PM

I agree....I like megadeth too but its now "un-cool" to like metallica because they got really popular. Why is it a crime to do well in the music industry? If megadeth even had a couple big hits people would be saying the exact same thing. And yeah, lets all give away our content on P2P sites...porn makes too much money as it is

new stuff sounds good

MrPinks 10-29-2007 02:09 PM

You have got to be fucking kidding me. You're saying those two songs are better than anything ever put out by Megadeth? Have you actually heard anything on the Peace Sells album? :upsidedow

Nobody could touch them up till Master Of Puppets. They lost it after that.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-29-2007 02:54 PM

Megadeth has alot of hits.

Symphony of Dstruction, Foreclosure Of a Dream, Peace Sells...

Dave Mustaine is a great writer, and still has some great hit's to put out in the new album. Mustane was a loss for Metallica in a way, as I think Mustane is actually a better Lyric writer than Hetfield.

Another example of people who don't know when to just give it up already...

Hell House Vic 10-29-2007 04:06 PM

Lars ruins the band.
But still, Master of Puppets was so fucking MONUMENTAL! Sooo good.

Why should they try to go back to their roots? Their hearts are obviously not where their roots are. They should go further away from their roots. They should try to make music that sounds like Neil Young.

Or just get rid of that crybaby Lars.

Clam 10-29-2007 04:14 PM

I think they have lost the Eye of the Tiger...
