I think there has been a shuffle going on lately, but I've always wondered how adding more Google tracking affects ranking. With Google Webmasters they better track your page, then with Google Analytics they track everything.
Seems with all their technology they would use it to improve search results. I'd certainly like to know if it's better to keep google blindsided in some cases.
I wonder the same thing all the time... all day I was thinking about how I give them way too much information by using analytics
even with being careful with links and being on different c classes and all, I wonder if a simple thing like having the sites on the same google analytics will link them in google's algorithm and count them as being an inlink
I also wonder about the traffic info.. it seems wrong if google uses pure traffic numbers in any way in their se results algorithm... too easily manipulated, impossible to get real accurate numbers meaning they will be skewed all over the place..... traffic numbers have no business being in serp until they have a way to accurately measure them, which is virtually impossible
so if you sign up for analytics and they determine your site has less traffic than another site for the same keyword they will punish you by dropping you further? worse yet using anything fromm alexa.... seems very wrong of them

Why would they use Alexa? Google has it's own toolbar which measures traffic, and those numbers are part of the algorithm (according to Google patents)
I just did a search for "cute teens". Did you see this link on the bottom already?

That one was added to Google back in January this year - wouldnt have affected his site - the update they are doing started a few days ago and is affecting a bunch of sites out there - not just his - and has nothing to do with Google WM tools
I've seen people blame adding a Google sitemap as the cause of their traffic falling off. There's a way that could possibly be valid, namely if you used some sort of auto sitemap generator that added some pages to your sitemap that Google really didn't like. Pages you probably wouldn't have put in your sitemap had you done it manually.
Other than that, having a Webmaster Tools account or Analytics shouldn't effect your rankings at all. They already track a lot of info about your sites whether you have those tools or not. Do a search, right click on the links and check the url that displays at the bottom of the browser.
