All the in-fighting is absolutely amazing and a total waste of fucking time. It's a wonder some of you get anything done. Now granted every business will have a little drama, but the shit here is down right silly. Grown men/women aren't supposed to act this way.

You'll never see Robert Ulrich (Target CEO) or H. Lee Scott (Walmart CEO) ripping each other apart in any kind of public forum, online or off, and they are serious competitors. God damned amazing some of you even have business contacts, if you truly do. A lot of business is based on personality. I can tell you right now, there are a lot here that I would not do business with, simply because of their asinine post and behaviour.

There are a quota of serious webmasters here who have a clue and a degree of business accumen - they are obvious. It's also awesome that some others can spend 24/7 on a chatboard - fat chance of doing any work of any kind.

On a totally different angle, but related to the thread title, - sure, the adult biz will drop in relevance. It has been dropping since the early 70's with the spread of "adult stores". When populations no longer have a "mystique" about porn and become familiar - the novelty/appeal angle and interest drops.

As a comparison, (and this has varied from country to country), it was hard not to earn serious money in the 60's-70's onwards by producing porn, cartons of "sex cosmetics" or whatever. It got to a level, we had to keep airshipping in product cos it was sold by the time it arrived. This is no longer the case - again, the "mystique" no longer exists in most western countries.

At the same time, there are new people to market to, and other developing nations where there still is a novelty value (tho depends on economics and legalities within these nations), but, they will be the main earners for the adult biz in future.

Familiarity breeds contempt - and that can influence a market substantially. The net is no different and has a contributed to losing the "mystique" of porn in a big way - it's now commonplace and nothing special.

As with any industry, there are intricacies that only the truly successful understand. It just so happens that one's ability to attack/defend, brag/retract, spam/promote etc. etc. in a public forum are qualities of success inherent to this particular industry. This is not a politically correct industry and it never will be. If you ever doubt that, refer to the header of this site.

For example, it would be completely acceptable for me to reply to your post with:

who the fuck are you to come onto this board and question how we conduct business?

Now if I were an account rep and afraid of losing my job because I didn't know dick about how the industry worked, I'd most likely reply with:

I agree! It's a shame that more webmasters don't communicate more like we did at my last job at Walmart! Hey you mentioned Walmart in your post! Let's be friends. Our sites convert great, you should give them a try!

While this forum is very-much a business oriented forum, the reality is that a lot of us know each other very well off the board as well. A lot of business done is done not in public, or on forums, or meant for other people to see.

CreatineGuy is a good example of a complete fucking moron that will never be successful in this industry no matter how hard he tries, however. Other people you'd be really surprised if you met them in person how creative and smart they actually are compared to how big of an asshole they can play on a message board.

It seems to me that most adult webmasters do not know how to write up a simple business plan for themselves as to determine their overhead and forecast their potential growth...

Its one thing to have words with another, however arguments on the subject of marketing and technical areas are way too complex for forums and a basic understanding is required first... It also seems to me that adult webmasters will try to make themselves appear to be more knowledgeable then what they really are as to gain an upper hand in their marketing. The pros do argue, however they seem to learn very fast that they are not making much money doing so...

All very good points. I did use a bad comparison. But I used that comparison simple because most of the people (I use that term loosely) claim to be rolling in the bucks. That was obviously a mistake on my part. there is no way any of those people have even moved out of moms basement.
