    Just saw The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips are from Oklahoma City and the city named an alley downtown in the entertainment district after the band. They had a dedication ceremony next to the alley complete with alien chicks, Santas, confetti cannons, 6 foot balloons, and a 12 foot tall butterfly. The mayor was on hand and felt a key to the city was a bit lame for these guys so they presented them with a 6 foot snow globe with them inside it. Wayne said "fucking cool" twice during the acceptance and afterwards the state treasurer got on the mic and told the cop in the back that they didn't hear what they thought they heard, it was just a bad mic with some static feedback. Was pretty cool for a band that's very un-country to get recognition like this in a city like Oklahoma City.

So want to see the live... one of the few bands I love I've never had a chance to catch yet...

They had some of the giant 6 foot balloons being bounced around but it was a bit windy and most of them got caught by the wind and floated down the street or up into the nearby buildings. I bet there were some surprised drivers who had no idea why giant colorful balloons were bouncing down the street.

They said after the ceremony they are going to be playing a full show downtown here for New Years Eve. Can't wait.

Saturday they are the Grand Marshall in the city Halloween parade downtown. I'm hoping I get to march in the parade, we are supposed to pick up costumes tomorrow. They are going to have 1000 people in skeleton costumes leading the parade. Should be pretty cool.
