YouPorn and sites like it might just implode on themselves.

I've long thought that sites like YouPorn and other "tube" style sites may ultimately have problems surviving over the long haul. If they are just giving stuff away and chewing up bandwidth they have to have some kind of way to make money. the advertising options for a porn site are far less than on a mainstream site like YouTube so there is less chance to make money and with more and more program owners and industry people adopting hostile attitudes towards tube sites even the types of advertising within the industry available to them are shrinking.

Here is a great article about YouPorn and the porn industry as well.

http://www.portfolio.com/culture-lif...inment-Profile

Much of it is about how DVD sales a in a free fall, but then it turns into an examination of YouPorn. It looks like the owners of YouPorn want to sell the site but are having trouble finding a buyer because even industry leaders like Vivid have a hard time seeing how they can turn it into a money maker.

So it makes me wonder: Will the Tube style sites eventually be their own downfall? I know many people said the same about TGPs, but a TGP gives away very little as compared to some of these tube sites and uses a whole lot less bandwidth.

My thought is that in a few years there still might be a few of these tube sites, but many of them will have faded away as a fad because the owners can bare the cost of running them and can't find enough income from them to keep them alive. Not to mention to possible 2257 problems these sites may eventually face.

I believe they offered it for sale for $20M and no one wanted it. Cut a couple of zeros and I'm sure they'll find a buyer quickly.

Yeah they probably would. that article also says AEBN's Pornotube and Megaroctic are both bandwidth hogs that make no money but they keep them for the traffic.

Those sites will fail and evolve into sites like those created by tubecgi which don't use bandwidth (unless desired) and stick to sponsor clips design to convert.

See sig.

I have said for months now the youtube style sites are a failing business model, some got it right however MOST others are total bandwidth sinks worth absolutly nothing.

My video site is doing great though and makes me about 5-8 sales a day.
Anyone got more than 2 minute clips hit me up sometime, I'll do the encoding.

It's just a matter of time before most of them fail because you can't give away FREE 30+ minute clips and expect a person to click your sponsor! When I search tube sites, I do everything in my power to avoid ads. All these guys are doing is teaching the next generation to be freeloaders

Yep, I think TGPs survived because most of them are text only (or are hosting small thumbs) so the hosting cost is relatively low compared to the number of visitors. Also they are just giving away galleries, not full movies.

Last I heard they still hadn't started profiting from YouTube yet.

I think that eventually there will be some porn tube sites that survive and thrive, but they will evolve into things that host smaller movies and have more advertising. The ones that are giving away full movies will have a hard time digging themselves out of the hosting bills they will rack up. You can't give someone hours and hours of free movies and then expect them to still spend money. It would be like letting someone go into blockbuster and take 10 free movies a day then you expect them to still rent or buy one.

The tube style sites appear for the most part to be too far ahead of the cost of bandwidth curve. They are also a little lacking in a true business model, mostly just aping youtube and trying to find income.

They have found traffic that is for sure, but I have a feeling that they have created a type of traffic that is actually worse than skim TGP traffic. Most of them appear to be making income from dating sites and pay for space ads, which may or may not work out. It is doubtful that people will pay big money over the long run to try to sell to leeches and such.

I suspect you will see these sites shift more and more to shorter videos, more "tricks" to get people to click forward, and even to go as far as to install toolbars or adware to try to make ends meet.

in the mean time, they teach more and more people every day to get porn for free instead of paying for it.

Vivid, Wicked Pictures, Evil Angel, Digital Playground, Red Light District, Penthouse Media Group, and Hustler need to get some new people with new ideas working with them.

I read that article as well, was wondering how many people caught it.

I think the tgp style tube sites will do much better over the long run and also make more money.

"Tube Sites" in their current model will have much more of a battle in regards to copyright infringement more than any other issue. Many of the current sites you see today, mainstream and adult, will be gone due to this ...unless they change how they operate.

There will always be money in physical products that can't be easily duplicated, such as Escorts and Sex Toys... my money is on developing / selling MeetEscorts.com and FunSexToys.com - in the meantime hit me up with good escort / sex toy sponsors.

[email protected]

I see the biggest threat to Porntube type sites being human nature itself - give surfers too much stimulous and they climax, fall asleep in bliss oblivious to paysites...

People pay for porn? ... seriously, many young people have grown up in a world of seemingly endless free porn and don't know any different; they expect porn to be free.

Ron
