I got a new monitor but its messed up...help?

Thought someone here might know a solution...I just bought a new computer and got a 17" LCD. I set it up fast trying to see how good it was gonna be since my other computer was old as fuck and had a terrible monitor. But anyway, I'm getting a strange 'line' type of thing that scrolls from the bottom of the screen to the top, its like 2 lines that almost look invisible but have that "Predator" movie look, where its clear but you can see it(i cant explain it any better). Its just a constant scroll...i exchanged the monitor for a new one but its doing the same thing. This is my first LCD flatscreen so maybe this is normal but im not sure...anyone here have any ideas?

Set your refresh to 60Hz and see if that fixes it; LCDs do not benefit from higher refresh rates, and the cheap ones just do, well, similar to what you've described, sometimes.

Im not taking offense to what you said, if you were saying cheap ones do what im describing...but im not sure if thats what you're saying. Are you saying cheap ones do this? Like i said this is my first one so i wouldnt know what to expect. I paid $200 for this one, its a HP 17" widescreen.

I'm saying "Set your refresh rate to 60Hz and see if that fixes it."

Cheaper produced LCDs, whatever the name, often lack the (not required) hardware to handle multiple sync rates which monitors require. It has nothing to do with how much you paid for it, but how much THEY paid to put development towards it. The LCD doesn't benefit from a 75Hz or 80Hz refresh; many of them only work 'correctly' at 60Hz, others will take 72Hz, 75, etc..

are you using a 3 prong outlet...if not thats your problem, if so check it with an outlet tester and make sure it is properly grounded.

what you are describing is almost certainly a 60 cycle noise
