Best way to add/manage photos in WordPress

I'm working on a WordPress blog that will eventually have hundreds, maybe thousands of images. I like the image uploader that comes with WP but I see that it saves all images in one location. It would be nice if there was a way to save an image to a specific folder when you upload it, so it would be easier to find later.

I was wondering how other bloggers handle this situation. Do you FTP your images onto your WP site and then hand code the image location in each post, bypassing the WP image upload option? Or is there a plugin or program that makes this process simpler?

    Thanks!

Twoface, I don't use ICQ... can you post details here or direct me to a website?

And Flexx, I did try searching on WordPress and a lot of links came back but none seemed to address what I'm looking for, although granted I didn't look through each one. I thought it would be quicker to post here to see if someone is already using something they can recommend.

dude, google the plugin WP-DownloadManager , i think it will do what you want. You have to specify one folder that you create, but within that folder you can have sub folders that you can choose from, and you can just upload all your files through ftp or upload it through the browser.

If you search around you can find 95% of what you need for WP for free.

TCSfounder: it looks like WP-download-manager is for giving surfers the ability to download files from your blog. That's not what I need but thanks for the tip.

Itchy, thanks for the plugins link.

I think I should clarify my question: I'm asking what other people who run WordPress blogs do in regards to managing images you upload to your site so you can get some kind of organization to your files. I realize there are many plugins out there... I just posted here to ask which ones GFY WP bloggers are using.

Although I appreciate the time people take to read my question, responses like "search for it yourself" don't really help. Maybe its not true of all newbies, but in my case I usually do extensive searches on Google and elsewhere before coming to GFY. My searches actually did come up with some options like Gallery and NextGen but I'd like to know if there are any others that actual adult-site bloggers are using. Thanks!

There is a plugin called Flexible Upload. It works well for me and has many functions such as resizing, thumbnail creation, optional makes watermarks.

                  You get it here: blog.japonophile.com/flexible-upload
