type this:

startx

and press enter.. You probally get some error and then the next step is figuring out how to solve it..

It cant start your graphic interface for some reason and thats why it boots into command line

:P

btw

If your beginner at Linux its better to take a distro Like Red Hat or Suse

They are the most compatible with all kinds of hardware out of the box

Keep me updated... I'm doing a testrun 32 bit install on a 64 intel... and if that goes well a 64 install on an AMD...

Looking forward to ubuntu on a decent machine... I've older versions on older computers and loved em...

Ok, I see what I did wrong... when it asked me what it install I picked just plain old ubuntu... not ubuntu desktop, so I guess I installed the command line server version only? Well, I just finished formating and am doing the install again.. will see how this goes.

Can't, I tried that, Downloaded it multiple times, even tried to create multiple burn images, first at max speed, second at 2x. the Machine will boot to the disk, but then when I try to do anything it just gives me a Disk I/O error.

On the other hand, XP installs flawlessly on it, even detects and installs all the correct drivers the first time... Doesn't look like Ubuntu is quite ready for the primetime yet.

Are you using 7.10?

I was having troubles with 7.10, and went back and searched teh googles for a 7.04 install and it worked flawlessly right off the bat.

This especially applies if you have ATI graphics...

7.10 doesn't work for me (ATI RADEON Card)......I had to download the 6.04 version and upgrade to 7.04 but since I was running vmware on the same OS virtual machine the PC got really sloooow........so I'll install ubuntu on a clean 20Gb HD and try to access my vista installation through VMware.......I'll see how that goes.......

walk through this (http://www.howtoforge.com/the_perfec...top_ubuntu7.04) and you should be able to do almost everything that you can do with windows....
