So basically you're just ripping off the Artists' work and using it without cost to promote a commercial porn company?

nothing is being sold whatsoever, these are dj mixes

every artist that is on the cd's/mixes knows exactly where their music will end up, along with the remixed songs also

the dj/club scene is a different world when it comes to music, any artist within that scene, whether they be major label signed or not, knows that mix cd's are part of the process, and if the mix cd's are not sold or made money on, then everything is the way it should be

the dj/club scene is a different world when it comes to music, any artist within that scene, whether they be major label signed or not, knows that mix cd's are part of the process, and if the mix cd's are not sold or made money on, then everything is the way it should be
But you're using it to promote a commercial venture.

So basically if I make a cash program I can use any of the songs you mixed anywhere on the site in anyway I please royalty free? Just so long as you can sign up to my cash program for free, right?

if you get the artists permission I am sure you could

I personally don't use anything for a cash venture, nothing I listed above makes me any money, it is used to get my name out there, if you have an issue with flashcash using my dj mixes and handing them out for free then take it up with them, but nothing posted above is making me money

I see what you are saying, but technically no money is being directly made from the mixes, so legally everything is on the up and up

I guess if you are really that curious about the way it all works you can ask your lawyer about it, I know that using a song in a video on a paysite is not legal without the artists consent, but using songs like I have in a mix cd that is given away is fine, in fact 99.9% of the artists I use music of hope you use their music in your mix cd's

Yeah I get what you're saying. I've always been kind of curious because I don't know how that industry works at all.

I don't personally have a problem with your or Flashcash doing this, it really doesn't concern me. However, I suspect that it's a fine line once you start using someone's music to promote a commercial venture entirely unrelated to the music industry.

I do agree, there is a very fine line for sure

luckily I usually know at least 80% of the artists on my mixed cd's personally and they ALWAYS get a copy of the mix when it is done, but then there is the whole issue with using artists like nine nich nails and gorillaz on there, both of those remixes were bootlegs, but those bootlegs eventually were picked up by the main artists and distributed because the artist liked them so much, so the artist has to realize that their bootleg mixes are on mix cd's everywhere, and there is never any word on their feelings about it

in all honest, i think it boils down to the fact that piracy and real legal issues are much more pressing to a music artist than a mix cd that is being handed out, and the majority of the money that artists make from dj's is from the dj buying the record/cd/mp3 and also from fees paid by clubs for playing the music, so if they squash the dj mix cd then the dj's will get less gigs, the clubs will play less of that artists music, etc....it would be like a domino effect...so, the dj mix cd is usually an essential part of the structure

btw, thank you for being rational during this conversation...one of the things I absolutely hate about gfy these days is the people that bitch just to bitch and you can't ever talk rationally and have a real discussion

one of the reasons I have been staying away lately
