I know it's been posted many times in the past. I'd search it but I can't.

Is it still important to design a web page based on 800x600? I would think it is. If you have a header with functional tabs you'd want the surfer to see them. What do you think?

You should take it into consideration.

imo the standard now is sites that utilize style sheets and pngs so the design can stretch and shrink but thats just me.

I build for 1024X768 and above only. People that are on 800x600 resolution in my opinion are some broke ass bastards and still using pc's from 1998..

I think most of us have widescreen monitors now anyways.

I use the firefox plugin Web Developer to check my sites at diff resolutions

Question is... can you live without those 10%. On a bigger site 10% can mean quite a lot.

According to Google Analytics most of my surfers are using 1024, so I guess it is the standard now

i build websites too for 1024X768 but its important 800x600 resolution, i think its a 20-30% of total visits (at least in my google analytics account)

Depends on my viewer base. If it's a site for computer savvy people then 1024x768. If it's for single moms then it's 800x600
