I rely on books and other sources which you seem to ignore. But if he draws attention to a problem, does that make the problem any less valid? You are the fool, either that or just feel like trolling. I'm right and others know it, and I could care less what you think. |

As someone who has gone through life with an unususual name I can certainly say this thread is unbelievably bigoted. Plenty of people thought I was black from my name too but it is gaelic and about as white as it can get. Regardless the name has opened more doors than it has closed.
As one who employs people without regard for race, creed, or unusual names but solely on the basis of merit I feel qualified to say that most employers I know look for people who are capable of doing the job over what their parents named them. Did anyone here read "Grapes of Wrath" by Steinbeck? In there, a character name "Rose of Sharon" contracts eventually to "Rosasharn". My family name was once "Timberlake" but contracted down to "Timlake". The point is that names like you are making fun of are not necessarily "black", and morphing and deviations in names are normal cultural processes. So all you rascist morons can just as well kiss my sister's black cat's ass. (Farrell means "heroic" in gaelic btw so look for me to defend this point until I pass my last fighting breath) |

I think more black people are racist in this world than white. Instead of proving stereotypes wrong a large percentage of blacks confirm them. I could care less about what skin color you are but if it quacks its a duck. Of course stereotypes are wrong but we live in an imperfect world. There are dumb, crazy, nice, smart, mean etc. people of all colors. I think too often black people, other races do this as well, think that an action is racism when it really is just how people handle themselves and not the color of their skin. If you dress like as if you are in a gang because its cool what is anyone to think?
My best example is if I see a black person walk down the street near me at night and he is dresses in baggy clothes wearing gang affiliated colors (or at least thinks he is), I would be nervous. If that same person (black) were to be walking down the street wearing normal clothes then I would think nothing of it. I am probably going to get flamed for talking about "normal" clothes but wtf is with the whole "urban" clothing fad? I remember guys in Dallas/Arlington dressing like that in the 80s and they were all gang members. This same example goes for names. Most intelligent blacks will not name their kids Latisha or something idiotic like that. The majority of blacks named like that come from the ghetto (look up the research its been done before), so when an employer is looking at a resume with that name they see that and equate it with ebonics, ghetto and other keywords like that. Companies do the same thing for all names such as a redneck name like Bo. Its not something done against blacks but all races. Thank but come again slavery was over long ago and the whole world does not hate blacks so get off of welfare and wake up. |

Im glad someone brought this up. I have always wondered the same. My name is Erin maiden name LLoyd and I'm Black. I got teased so bad when I was in school because of my name because it was different. Most of the other kids had a La or Nay etc in front or at the end of their names. It's like if you speak proper and have a normal name you are an outkast.
I never understood until I got older why my mom gave me a normal name. She told me that she didn't want me to be sterotyped based upon my name. When I got older and started working most people thought that I was of irish or caucasin before they met me because of the way I sound as well. Sometimes it worked out in my favor and other times not. If I would drive out in some of the hick towns in PA I would always get pulled over for some bs reason. Then it dawned on me that it was my name... It is a blessing and and curse if you have a normal name and are black. Even though with all this I decided to name my daugther Sophia Taylor when she was born last year.. I want her to have a figthing chance in this world as well.. Even though I think she will have it way harder since she is black and phillipino. |
Its a black thing and stupid at that when its been proven that people with names like that do not excell.
