i am lookin to get a mac on monday
this is for light video editing and photo crap

would a mac mini be to basic??

They are OK, but if you want the workstation of all workstations, get a mac pro. They are a lot more expensive though:P

It really depends on the level of editing your going to do on it... if your going to be doing fairly basic stuff, it should be ok.

would be killer but my budget is 1800 tops on this

A 24 inch 2.4 ghz i mac will set you back around $1800 and is better IMHO than the mini

Anything with iMovie works awesome. It's really easy to use. Drag and drop.

As long as you load it up with as much RAM as you can put in it, you should be more than set for what you want to do. Oh...and an external HDD would probably come in handy too.

Dont forget to check out the refurbished macs they have for sale at Apple.com.

Can save you few hundred bucks, and they come with the same warranty.

Get a 20 imac for $1499 and add a gig of Ram for $50 then you have a kick ass workstation, I have one just like it....

I use Final Cut on an ibook G4. A Mac Mini is great for light video and photo editing.

GO with the imac. The mini will not allow for much ram or a 2nd screen.
