HDV to WMV or MPG

Dudes,

We are edditing a HDV movie in Finalcut Pro and the image is perfect.

When we render the movie to AVI or MOV to make a Mpg or Wmv the quality is sucking major ass!

What kind of program are you using to convert?

Thanks in advange

Looking interlacy (<-- Techie term) and shit when you play the raw footage after export? Like before you encode right? Probably to much for the player to handle, after encoding and de-interlacing (if done properly) should look pristine. Try finishing the workflow and see how it turns out.
(Unless I'm reading you wrong)

Lance is right, if you shoot with a 1080i (interlaced) camera like, say, the Sony FX-1, you MUST deinterlace the footage at some point between the capture stage, or on the timeline in the edit stage or on export to your intermediate or final format if you want it to look good on a computer monitor.

I always deinterlace upon capture, edit and then export a full sized Cineform codec AVI from my hdv footage and then take that huge file into a full featured video encoding app like Cleaner XL or Sorenson Squeeze to encode it to the final formats and add the watermarks if necessary.

Skip going to AVI, just go straight to MPG

I have found that Episode Pro works great. It's Mac based (you mentioned using Final Cut) so no worries there. I have used Cleaner and Squeeze. Episode Pro I find runs faster and has great presets if you dont like tweaking.
