I've had one particular domain for 11 years and it used to be an ISP, so it gets a fair amount of delivery attempts to it, even though most of the addresses were deleted long ago.
There are also lots of delivery attempts to addresses which used to be displayed 'in the clear' on my web sites. I've now set it up so that if a mailer tries to deliver to an unknown or blocked username, the IP will be firewalled for 24 hours... it won't even be able to connect. The majority of the IPs attempting delivery have hostnames with "adsl" or "dialup" in them which suggests they may be botnet zombies. Hopefully this will slow things down a bit, without too much collateral damage...... |

This was prompted by someone using my mailer to annoy someone else, over 15,000 bounces got sent back to them before I discovered what was happening.
