Teen vs. Young Adult - Is this the same niche? Should it be or NOT?

I was just reading the current issue of XBIZ World and noticed a new feature column they have on the last page. This is a collaboration between XBIZ and PornUsers.com with a goal of providing site owners and webmasters with user-driven market research and feedback.

One of the lists they have is the TOP 10 Rankings for Active Niches and there is NO category named "TEEN"

Instead they are using the term "Young Adults"???

This is how I see it. Rather than re-name one of the TOP niches in the industry I think that there is actually an opportunity to create a new niche that would feature the 20 to 28 year olds and call this the "Young Adult" niche since in actuality "Teen" means 18 and 19 year olds anyway.

What are your thoughts on this???

18-23 = teen
23+ = mature / milf

Seems there is some middle ground missing.. Lots of the "teens" are also pushing 30, just depends how old they look I guess.

I prefer to use the term teens or teenyboppers. Young adults means nothing really in terms of a niche. Any hot chicks who are in their early to mid twenties up to say thirty-five or are just hot porn chicks; they are MILFs if they are over 35 to about 50, and then "grannnies" after 50 or so.

Ask random people what age they think of when they hear the word teen. I'll bet you a quarter that almost nobody gives an age over 17.

Now do it with young adult. I'll bet my winnings that almost nobody says a number less than 18.

By the way, I mean people NOT in the industry..

It's the same niche, and it's being used by a lot of larger sites nowadays. With the US breathing down the industry's neck, it's not a bad idea. Certain places like Google Adwords won't allow your site to buy traffic with teen on the site.

Barring the Google Adwords issue, I think 18-19 are "Legal Teens" and 20-25 are "Young Adults".

Young adult is just a term to make Teen more PC. The reality is that your horny porn surfers aren't looking for "young adult", they are looking for teen. So you guys all make your search pages for young adult, I'll do teen and we can all be happy.

The only thing that I am aware of concerning the use of the word teen is that in our advertising we have been instructed NOT to use the word Young preceding the word Teen.

There are good comments posted here but bottom line it sounds like Young Adult and Teen are considered the same niche right now.

This is not to say that in the future some webmasters may try to create a separate Young Adult niche in addition to the Teen niche.

Time will tell as it always does!

The only thing "young adult" has going for it is that you could run girls up to say 21 or 22 honestly (and admit thier age). Nothing more stupid than a 25 year old teen. Young adult would certainly open up the market a bit.
