Not sure why they first said this:

"The spokeswoman, Amelia Soares, told the BBC that no-one was injured and that the miners have access to water.
She said the bottom of the shaft, where they are trapped, is well ventilated."

Then later someone says:

"We are, you know, losing hope because... from six o'clock in the morning up until now the miners might actually be suffocating,"

So is it well ventilated, or are they all suffocating?

Both. Doesn't really mater because the people who own the mines could give 2 left nuts for the people mining them. 3000 dead miners means they need to find 3000 more to do the work, nothing more.
