Music download trial starts in Minnesota

Quote:
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - The first trial for a person accused by the recording industry of illegally downloading music has opened in Duluth, Minnesota.

Jammie Thomas is among some 26,000 people being sued by the industry for allegedly violating copyrights by sharing music online.

Thomas, a 30-year-old mother of 2, is accused of illegally offering more than 1,700 songs for free in a file-sharing network. The jury hearing her case includes an amateur musician.

Many of the other who've been accused have paid a few thousand dollars to settle their cases.
