Porn product placement in movies and on TV.....

How many of you have been approached for product placement for your sites?

I know Mr. Skin was in Knocked Up and Video Secrets was on the season premier of Dexter, but wondered how many others have been approached.

Is this another way of branding sites and will it increase in time?

Maybe we'll see a couple Lightspeed Girls featured in a movie or TV program? maybe a solo girl?

The big question is...

How do you measure the effectiveness of the placement?

The most effective is getting on staged talk shows where you "argue" with another person who is really in the same bed as you are. You can learn something from KB for sure

You can measure it against sales if you take into account your expected sales for the period and compare them to the period where the show/movie was shown. In other market research they would have test groups and find out whether people even notice the placement. (Like when coke is placed in a movie for instance)

It would be important to ensure that your brand is placed in a show/film that speaks to your demographic. The Knocked Up placement was killer; you are hitting the right demographic and it's not like someone is holding a Doritos bag for 10seconds, the brand is written right into the script and is prominent. It was likely very effective at getting people to recall the brand name - they could google or type in the site from memory.

Placements are pricey so you'd have to ask someone who's done it if it ultimately pays off.

If they didn't pay for it, great for them, it's really good free exposure...if they did pay for it, still good exposure on a really popular series that repeats quite often (it also appears on Showtime on Demand) and the first season was popular on DVD.

I'd love to see some numbers on how that increased their sales, seems like pure solid gold to me.

Years ago the producers of a crooked police drama called "Scarred City" (1998) starring Stephen Baldwin, Chazz Palminterii & Tia Carrere asked me for some large posters to dress up an adult book store set which had a long gun battle taking place in it. My "Strap-On Sally" posters were prominently displayed during the mayhem!

I had no idea Mr. Skin was real. Just like it was pointed out in "Thank you for Smoking", the film industry is a good marketing strategy.
