From that link: The Federal Aviation Administration cleared all airline traffic within 250 miles of Memphis on Tuesday.

That's a problem with Memphis, not the whole US....

well, ya. memphis is a major airline hub. so flights delayed there will cascade all across the country.
but the faa will not be grounding flights across america!

Shouldn't affect very much, that particular area doesn't handle a ton of passenger traffic.

"Air-traffic control centers in adjacent regions handled flights that were already in the air when the problem was discovered, FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said. "The airspace was completely cleared by 1:30 (p.m.) Eastern time," she said.

High-altitude flights through the region — which includes Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri, parts of Indiana and Kentucky and West Tennessee — were discontinued while the equipment was being fixed.

"What we did is put a ground stop in place for any flight that would transition through that airspace. We held them on the ground wherever they were, whether it was Miami, Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston," Bergen said."

Things like this happen all the time. If one airport has problems, others need to pick up the slack, which means delays.

insane delays

if anyone has ever lived on the east coast when the north east has ice storms or heavy snow then you know how it can get

we got held for 6 hours on the runway once because there was an ice storm in boston or some shit....when 5-10 planes get backed up the whole system goes to shit and everythign gets fucked up

26 flights were being held Tuesday afternoon for departure and 49 have been canceled.....12 Northwest Airlines flights were diverted, and 25 to 30 departures had been delayed one to two hours.....No major problems were reported at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport or Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports
looks like it wasn't too bad if atlanta or chicago weren't affected

what the hell you talking about? do you have problems with logic as well?

the FAA issued an order to ground flights in memphis. the FAA did not issue an order to ground fights across the country.

Only delays being reported by the FAA currently are 2 hours 6 minutes at OHare due to thunderstorms, and 53 minutes for Teterboro NJ due to weather. Teterboro is also starting to back up on their outbound flights, but once again, due to weather.

One of the girls on our St Maarten trip tonight just landed in Chicago about an hour ago on a flight from London, on time.

It was most likely an issue with the TRACON center if its effecting that large of an area. One center handles a large section of the country, like Alberquerque (misspelled) and Denver. If something goes out at one of those centers, it fucks shit up across the board.
