Attacked by Yellow Jackets!!!

Anyone here ever been attacked by a swarm of yellow jackets?

Had my first encounter yesterday and now my arms are swollen ... I took one on my left fore arm and one on my right inner bicep, right by my arm pit...

Me, my step father, mother and dog... all swarmed... I have some bushes in my back yard and we were out back discussing things and the step father was looking in the bushes by my large pine...

well I guess he kicked something... we comes out and we talk for another good minute... and then i notice my dog acting frantic and then i see him nipping back and forth and as soon as I realize bees... one hits me in the arm... so then we all run and I thought my step father grabbed the dog. but no, he just ran around the house... So i run back out to get my dog because hes on his rope and they are burying in his hair...

I get him inside and then another comes out of his hair and gets me in the other arm, all While my mother is getting one out of her hair... They were in our clothes and everything.

Crazy...

I wish I would have seen the step father... I guess he ran around to the front of my house... and instead of say grabbing the hose and spraying his hair... ( he felt one in his hair) ... he grabs a piece of wood on the ground and starts rubbing and whacking it on his head... because he didnt want to get stung getting it out...

I wonder if my neighbors seen him do that...

Anyway so now im swollen pretty good. Not like life threatening or nothing... but it looks like ai put some weight on in the arms ;) and i can feel the fever.

The mom got one on her inner thigh, top of her head and tip of her finger.

Step father got one right in between the pinky knuckle and the next... so his hand is swollen like a mitt I guess. Havent seen the since they left.

My dog dosnt seem like he got any, but im sure he did... I rubbed him down and i dont see any swelling on his face or nothing thank god.

so my next question is... What gets rid of them efficiently.. Ive done used two cans of wasp/hornet/yellow jacket spray on their hive/hole and they still just buzz around... So then i figure if they wont die Ill makem leave... Turned my sprinkler on them directly for awhile... they just buzz around the water....

Someone told me bleach but I havent tried it yet...

Any methods?

and is there anything I can take to reduce the swelling? benadryl? Need to get the right stuff at the store

Ive been stung before but never attacked by a swarm... Freaky Shit!

Call the county man. They might be able to get someone out there and take care of it.

I have been hiot by them too and they suck. I feel for you. Try some kerosene on a rag tied to the end of a pole. Light em up and burn those fuckers.

Them yellow-jackets are nasty bastards.

We had a bowling-ball sized nest in the dead space of our attic a few years back. Had to call in the pest control peeps and they smoked it with some special powder to knock'em out first, then hauled it out in a sealed baggie.

Raid sells those yellow-jacket traps you hang from a pole (looks like a mini house...they fly in, get trapped and die). Dunno if they're available in your area, though.

I'm glad to hear that you guys were all ok. Getting swarmed by bees is a shitty experience.

I got swarmed about 2 years ago. Was mowing the lawn in the back yard and the bees apparently had a hive in the ground or something. I got hit in the leg, thought it was a rock that got kicked up from the mower. When I looked down I saw that they were swarming, so I started hauling ass into the garage, hit the button on the way up stairs to close it. A few followed me inside, so I grabbed a towel and swatted them. In the end, I had about 8-10 stings on my legs, broke out in hives all over. It sucked.

I just took a couple benadryl pills. Either they helped or the hives went away naturally after an hour or two.

As for getting rid of them, wait until night-time. They should all be sleeping in the hive and you just hit 'em with the bee killer spray.

Good luck!

Just set out some traps.

I find the sweet liquid no escape traps work best. I make mine out of two liter botles but you can buy them premade. Works damn well and you will get them all eventually or knock them down to an acceptable level.

Didnt have much time to track their flight patterns nor could I tell if they were ambushing me in a pack or if it was individual kamikaze shit...

They do that.

Me and the wife (was gf at the time) was clearing out the yard of one of our rentals. We went to move a foam padding matress cover thing. Next thing we know the air is buzzing and we are under full attack. I told her to run (she is allergic) and I being in a fucking chair took a slow retreat trying to keep most of their interest as she escaped with only two bites/stings. I however got nailed hard and most of them did keep their attention near me since I was closest to their nest.

Sucks ass trying to retreat in a chair on bumpy ground trying to fight them off with a damn garden hose.

They always work as a team. Insects that live in groups have individual roles. Some are just worker drones, some are scouts, others are gaurds.

PS. Never wheel on or step on in most peoples cases a red ant home. Those fuckers can climb you fast and they bite like hell. Damn soldiers will lock on and when you try to brush them off or whatever their fucking heads stay stuck to you pinching still alive like fucking insect zombies while their bodies fall to the ground. Then when you actually feel the venom it just makes you sick as hell to your stomach and your head hurts.

Yellow jackets are another name for a type of wasps.
Though not to be confused with meat bee's which are just lame.

For us, it's wasps. Which is why I water the bushes around the house as often as I can, to keep them from nesting. Yellow jackets are nasty. Double doses of benidrill should help.

I had a run-in with a few the other day... bastards are serious about protecting what they consider their territory.

Fortunately, their nest was in a position so that only one or two could come out at a time... so once I figured out where they were coming from, I just sat there with some flying-insect killer... spraying at and into the entrance as they each came out... one or two-at-a-time, to their death... looking around to make sure there wasn't some secret "back entrance" I didn't notice through which others were escaping.

18-or-so in total. not that big of a nest, I guess.

This one i think is either in a stump or in the ground by the stump... Im slowly killing htem off and digging it out... I can only do so much before i have to run away and turn the hose on them... the wasp spray does not work... Ive used 3 cans.. they are slowly decreasing and ill eventually get to the nest and eliminate it

you can pour gas on them and you don't have to light it on fire... it will kill them very fast. My uncle did this on a very large wasp nest last year, and I was shocked that the gasoline killed them all within a second or two.

I do suggest that you spray the area afterwards with water to avoid risk of fire.
