Sign of how bad the magazine industry is? Business 2.0 closes shop ;(
I just found out my favorite magazine "Business 2.0" is closing up shop. I can't believe it. I can't imagine how bad the magazine industry is hurting when a kick ass magazine like Biz 2.0 has to close shop.
Damn that really bums me out. I'm going to miss it. ![]() |

Business 2.0 WAS a great magazine, about 4 or 5 years ago. But recent issues showed a total lack of focus and a format that was more "10 ways to make your website sticky" and less about true business.
The magazine business these days is very tough indeed, and the insanely long lead times that most publications have make them almost entirely irrelevant by the time they make it to the stands. In many cases, they have a 3 or 4 MONTH lead time. Example would be that a magazine would have finished it's Christmas issue in August for publication in november with a december date on the cover. Too bad they are gone, but like most things... |

lets just skip 2.0 and move up to 3.0
2.0 has already pissed me off... A shame though, indeed...

I remember when I first discovered the magazine I was walking away with new ideas. Nowadays it seems to have been written for n00bs.

After interviewing "Tom the computer expert" and not letting him get a word in at all, Bill decides quickly that the guy is a fraud. When Dave confronts him and asks him why he didn't let the guy talk, Bill says that he can spot a phony a mile away. Dave reschedules the interview for the following day with Catherine. ... Tom comes back to be interviewed by Catherine, but it turns out Bill is right. This Tom guy thinks the future of business is "computers." They're really neat, and when he gets one, he's going to be really successful. Jimmy talks to Dave about it, and wonders why Bill couldn't figure out quickly that this guy was a phony because he's usually good at that.

Ooooh yeah, back in the old days, people used to read magazines and big thin papers called "newspapers." Those are obsolete now. |

Personally I'm a big fan of paper in the hand, when it's something Im' reading. I hate reading articles online, I'd much rather have them in actual print.
However, with that said I think any printed mag is very foolish if they don't set up a paid subscription site on the web, offering the same content online each month.

Time killed it by favoring Fortune when it came to good article opportunities. Curious to see what will come the remainder of my subscription. Long live Wired & Inc.

All print circulations are falling. The adult ones were hit badly. Businesses move on.

I remember the day The Standard (The Industry Standard) went out of business. What a sad day. Was the best magazine for web business news and the internet economy.
Funny thing is, i knew this happen. I'm so critical on shit that whenever i find something that i end up enjoying, i know something's going to happen to it... it.. ![]() And i knew better then to subscribe...cause now they're gone. I bet if i kept buying it at the stand, it would still be here. story of my life..... :\

One of the reasons many of the magazines close is the Advertising Dept. is more powerful than the Editorial Dept.
Many article are written to please or promote advertisers and the readers soon learn to spot the BS. The n the readers turn off, circulation falls and advertisers are left thinking WTF!! |
