not enough.

I'm hoping that it's kind of like the movie Jacob's Ladder. You live an eternity in your mind for the last few seconds while your brain fizzles out.

Except without the whole seeing demons and horrifying imagery part.

If there is a soul, why are human attitudes regulated by hormones like any other animal? Why do we suffer memory loss?

campimp 02-21-2008 04:36 PM

i think it just all ends. i think heaven is more or less if you are remembered as a good person in the minds of the people you left behind, afterall, your memory is pretty much the only thing that really continues of your life here, but as for your mind and soul, i think it just goes away

i dont believe in god, i think religion is basically just a way to control people and make them feel better about the fact that life goes by so fast and then its just gone. its pretty crazy to try to even imagine the world without me

having said all that.... i really hope i am wrong and there is something. how cool would it be to be able to talk with people that have died before us and be able to tell them everything we never did while they were here.

pretty much everyone i know that has someone special die on them always says there are so many things they wished they had said. i hope to get the chance

but i doubt it

My grandma told me this story:

When she was a teenager, she and her mother agreed that who ever who dies first will come back to tell to the other how it is after death.

Her mother died when she was 13. EVERY single night after her death she would dream one and the same dream each time - that her mother is siting on the bottom of the dug out hole in the cemetery. She would ask her mother what is she doing there and the mother would say that she just has to be there and not explain any more. After a year of dreaming this same thing every night, she had a longer dream on the first anniversary of her mother's death - she dreamed the same thing as before, only this time her mother got up and walked out of the hole. She started explaining that life after death is the same like before death - "in our world, as in yours, we have three levels. One is very poor people who have hard life and no joy. Middle level is an average life with a little bit of everything. And the third level is very nice - everybody is happy, shining and peaceful with nothing to worry about". Then mother explained that she had gone to the middle level and is happy she is there.

My grandma has never ever dreamed about her mother again in her whole life.

Very weird story, I know. But makes some sense.

Do you believe in after life? What happens to the years of thoughts one has when the brain stops functioning?

Some thoughts Ive been having... What do you think?

The real question is why do people spend so much time worrying about it?
Whether there is an "Afterlife" or not does it really matter?

I think if there is an afterlife it's a kind of bonus to the whole living thing.
SO either way I am good to go and ready:)

Seriously, do some research instead of HOPING this ghost crap is true. Its pathetic really.

I don't post much on these forums much, but I had to jump in to say one thing:

I, too, believe that 99% of all paranormal shit is 100% fake.

I think the mind is very powerful and yes, can generate sensations, "see" things that aren't there, and "hear" things that aren't actually real.

However, I've actually asked to go out with several different paranormal groups in North America. I've been on probably about... 40-50 different "investigations". I must say that I believe almost every one of them was not actual hauntings. A couple of them even I had experiences at that I can not explain. Most Haunted, Paranormal State are 100% fake. I have my reservations about Ghost Hunters the TV show, but I believe those guys to be genuine and not fake anything.

Of the few odd things I can not explain, one was at a house where a supposedly pregnant woman was killed at. I was alone, not high, not drunk, stone sober, and I witnessed a black floating ball, about the size of a golf ball, come towards me, fly around me, go up some stairs and disappear.

I do say that religion is 110% bullshit.

When i die nothing happens

halfpint 02-21-2008 06:51 PM

I belive that when you die thats it, no after life just nothing
I also belive that a lot of people who expereince things like "I have been here before in another life" is caused from your ancestors DNA. We must all carry some DNA in the brain from long lost ancestors and even though you have not been to a place before your ancestors most prob have which triggers this feeling of "I have been here before"

Well I certainly never expected a thread like this on GFY. Very interesting comments. And I just added "Wakng Life" to my Netflix cue.

I don't have an answer to the question but I've always thought that a clue to life after death may be in our dreams. I've always wondered why we dream, why we need to go to sleep. Why would a god create beings that need to sleep? Wouldn't it be more efficient to keep us up all the time? What's the point, from an all-powerful creators perspective?

Maybe dreams are some kind of bridge to another existance? What if we're all in a dream right now and when we die we "wake up" to some other reality?

I also think that orgasms may hold a clue. Think of the absolute best orgasm you ever had... wasn't it like you left your body and went somewhere else for a moment?

Feelings like that, or the simple pleasure of the sun hitting your face on a warm day, or the taste of hot cocoa on a cold night... or the smile in your lovers eyes... can anything be better than that? Are we really in heaven right now but we don't realize it?

The idea of all this being tied to our brain is both scary and exciting because it implies that science will one day be able to keep brains active so we'd live forever, like those heads in the jars on Futurama.
