Monday Night Football Is It Still A Big Deal?

Tonight is a huge Monday Night Football Game, as my Washington Redskins take on the Eagles in Philly.

I am going to up to Saddle Ranch in Studio City to go watch the game.

What are you going to do for tonight game, and is it still a big deal. I remember when Monday night football was huge deal; it doesn't seem like it is anything like it used to be.

I think the problem is the last 2 seasons have been witness to some real sleepers.

Hopefully this year will be different.

I seldom watch unless its my teams playing, Skins or Steelers.
Other than that I prefer RAW instead.

Honestly it just not the same since it left the major networks, went off the grid so to speak.

Monday Night Football was big when (a) it was on network, and (b) most people didn't have 400 other channels to consider. It use to be that Football was one of only 3 or 4 choices for the evening, which made it popular and made it into water cooler material for the next day.

Now in the zillion channel universe, it is about as significant as a toad passing gas.

Last week's was a divisional rival game that went down to the last minute. It even had a forth quarter comeback.

What you're feeling to consider is that NFL games are still amongst the most watched sporting events in this country. The Emmy's barely beat out the Sunday Night Football game in the ratings war....the NFL game was basically responsible for the 2nd lowest Emmy ratings EVER.

Not to mention that even though its on ESPN the MNF game is still in the top 3 for Monday nights.

o'rly?

Is that why the show grew since moving to ESPN?

I'm guessing I'm the only NFL fan in this thread? Alot of nonsense being thrown around. The majority of NFL viewers are fans and not casual watchers....therefore it doesn't matter what channel it's on.

It's usually the father (fan) sitting down with the rest of his family in the living room to watch the games. It's never been a "well nothing else is on, lets watch the game we don't understand" type thing.

it doesn't matter if they are "top3" because things just aren't what they use to be.

Where there was three networks, on average 33% of the viewers watched each channel. Popular shows might dominate their time slot with 50% or more of viewers.

In the last week, the most popular things on TV have been football. The best ranked (from 9/3 to 9/9 inclusive) NBC Sunday with an audience of 14 million. Just to put it in perspective, a repeat of a last season CSI on Thursday pulled almost 7 million.

Give it a couple of weeks for the networks to get into gear, for the new season of Desperate Housewives to land in the middle of football time, and then let's have a look at where things are going.

Not really, but I love football on in the background while I work. Most of it is boring, but the crowd will let you know when it's time to look.

really....it was more like the Eagles looked crappy. Washington didn't really have to do much to beat them. Same thing as week with Green Bay. Jason Campbell is not exactly setting the world on fire with his passing game.

The sad fact is that the Eagles are starting their slide down the other side of the hill, and 2 scrub teams have been there to take advantage(although Green bay is on the way up I think). The Redskins do not look that great...they have no chance against the Cowboys. I hate the Boys, but that team is lookin good. They will take the NFC east with no problem, while the Iggles, Gints and Skins battle it out for 2nd.
