Actually, the buildings were built to withstand planes crashing into them.
In 1945 a U.S. Army B-25 bomber crashed into the empire state building. It's still standing.

I don't give a fuck what that building was "built to withstand," there is no way that massive structure was going to remain standing after an enormous chunk was cut out of the side, not to mention fires bigger than you can imagine. How the hell is tons and tons and tons of the top part of the buildings going to remain in tact when below there is an inferno melting away all of the support? I think it was pretty obvious that the top part was going to eventually implode on the rest of the building. Everyone watches the fires from the helicopter camera views but they have no idea how insanely massive those fires were up there. Actually there is a mountain of evidence, and new information is always being found. It's just a matter of forming all of it into a theory that holds water. Something that may take decades. Just about the only thing we know for sure right now is that there is more to 9/11 than the official story.
Loose Change was the first big "9/11 truth" attempt, but I think even the most devout conspiracy theorist watches that movie now and cringes. There have been better movies and websites since then. Each subsequent explanation will be more difficult to argue with than the last because the criticism of past explanations are constantly being addressed.
If someone had said just after the JFK assassination that the US government was involved, very few Americans would have listened. However today the theories are polished and about 50% of Americans believe the government did indeed play a role in his death.

I love conspiracies. My favorite is the supposed alien cover-up. I have researched the 9/11 conspiracy much more than the average person, and I have yet to see any concrete evidence that would prove that 9/11 was an inside job. The whole conspiracy is based on a bunch of bullshit. A bunch of idiots who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground running around saying dumb shit like "fire doesn't melt steel" and "buildings wouldn't fall like that." The thing with conspiracy theories is that they don't require any evidence. They are rarely backed up by credible people and are usually perpetrated by people who have no knowledge of the incident or credible educational background to discuss it. It's funny to see someone flock to a YouTube video by a guy in his parent's basement with no educational background, while completely ignoring reports by actual fucking engineers and scientists who have dedicated their lives to the study of this stuff.
But it'll never stop and will probably grow as the internet does. Whether it's aliens, fake moon landings, assasination, 9/11, terrorist attacks, etc, people will believe it. There are still idiots out there who believe in the lockness monster after the fucking creator of the video said it was a fucking hoax.Comment

It's a B-25 bomber, and of course it is different, granted the airliner used jet fuel. Plus, you would figure, building materials/engineering would have advanced a little bit from the time the empire state building was built (1930), to the time that the first tower was built (1966).
