Truly mindfucking movies...

Most Cronenberg, Lynch, Fassbinder, some Bergman, some Hitchcock, movies from Philip K Dick´s writings, some Terry Gilliam's films... mmm...

Some Pasolini's films: Canterbury Tales, Arabian Nights, The Decameron, Salo... extremely twisted and some of 'em very rare to find

John Waters in a way sometimes too...

tony286 09-10-2007 06:51 PM

The game a good one for twists.

Cecil B Demented is one of my fave John Waters movies.

I'm going to 2nd (or 3rd or 4th or whatever it is by now) the movie The Machinist. I had never even heard of it until my read about what CB put himself through for it and wanted to see it. We watched it and wow, what a weird yet good movie.

That role gave me a lot more respect for him, which was already high.

James Spader:

Stargate
2 Days in the Valley
Crash
Secretary
Sex, Lies, and Video Tape
Boston Legal

I can even forgive him for Supernova. One of the worst movies ever.

I also totally dig Cronenberg. His movies Crash and Videodrome in particular are good.

:thumbsup:thumbsup

The bondage scenes in Videodrome are freaky - very inspirational.

I also dig Cronenberg's Dead Zone. Great ending twist.

HankGrill 09-10-2007 11:15 PM

Secretary is great.

I'd also put forth Gattaca

Dead Zone was the movie based on Stephen King's story then turned into the show?

Great stuff.

Kudos to NinjaSteve on the "May" recommendation. That was one weird ass fucked up movie.

Not too bad. It's a bit corny. Dead hookers are always fun.

bronco67 09-11-2007 02:40 PM

I can't say i have seen any of them. I'll add them to the queue to look up.

Rui 09-11-2007 03:59 PM

Taking the risk of repeating a lot of what was suggested here are some of my favorites:

- CUBE

- Cypher (underrated and a bit "vulgar" but was quite impressed with it)

- Memento

- Trainspotting (not mind fuck per se but think it does fit, great work with the tunes, scenery,theme,characters,etc..)

- Prozac Nation (orphan but its a nice flick :1orglaugh)

- Matchstick Man

- Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind (Jim Carrey fits pretty well into this sort of roles)

- Magnolia

- Short Cuts

- El Laberinto del fauno

- Scanners Darkly (trippy!!!)

- Gattaca (very underrated IMHO, I just love this flick)

Yep, I was trying to hit you with the stuff that i didn't think anyone else would mention and with a sense of variety.

Rui 09-11-2007 04:08 PM

A few others I forgot (I do hate this sort of thread that makes me dig tru the stuff I like\loved, you are always bound to miss something):

- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

- The Usual Suspects

- Irreversible

- Apocalypse Now (the last part is pure gold!)

- 2001: A Space Odyssey (cant get any of my friends to appreciate this, I'm the only one who seems to see the greatness of this)

- Blue Velvet :)

- Blade Runner

- Vanilla Sky (was told the original was better, have yet to see it though)

- Papillon

ok..going to STFU now as this is turning into the list of all my favorite movies (even the "non-mind-fuck ones") :X

2001 = Genius (imo)

A few more to add...

"Utu"
"The Duellists"

and if you have a taste for the absolutely surreal then any of the Jodorowsky films that just finally came out on DVD...

"El Topo"
"Holy Mountain"
"Sante Sangre"

with Nick Cage?

- Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind (Jim Carrey fits pretty well into this sort of roles)
Pretty good movie. I love Jim Carrey's roles where he isn't trying to be funny.

- Magnolia
had it on dvd, lent it to a "friend", never got it back.

- Short Cuts
I'll have to look it up

- El Laberinto del fauno
Pan's Labyrinth is amazing!

- Scanners Darkly (trippy!!!)
Very trippy

- Gattaca (very underrated IMHO, I just love this flick)
Agreed. Good movie. Hints of Brave New World.

:winkwink:

November?

Stay?

Also, I don't think I saw anyone mention Fear and Loathing, American History X and American Beauty, but I'd be shocked if you haven't already seen them.

Perhaps not to your taste: Waking Live, Pink Floyd's The Wall, PillowBook, Total Recall

Far-L 09-11-2007 07:10 PM

Do you like documentaries?

"Hells Angels Forever"
"The Devil and Daniel Webster"

Good on ya. Did I meet you or one of your other partners in Miami? Things were a bit confused with all the drama.

Thost should all be a given. I'll check out the ones that may not be to my taste. I do own The Wall on dvd and Total Recall.

Yep we did meet very briefly but yes there was an issue which we were dealing with regarding a certain drunken inappropriateness from one of our other guests... my apologies for the whole situation - was certainly honored that you made it by.

Oh man, this isn't a mindfuck movie, and I didn't think it was all that incredible, but has anyone seen "Feed"? Holy cow.

GrouchyAdmin 09-11-2007 10:31 PM

Session 9. It's a great movie, but the ending was stilted and trite. It's still one of my favorites.
