Why would someone spend $99/month when all they need is a $5/month virtual account?

find me a dedicated server for $100 that will give me (i am combining all my virtuals here) 10 completely different ip addresses and I will join right this very second, and not 10 ip's on 4 class c's, this is 10 completely different ip's

virtuals have a GREAT purpose in my workflow, every time I add a new virtual and put new sites on it my blog traffic increases at least 200% across my network

and for those that say virtuals suck on all hosts, not true either

there are some REALLY good hosts that provide rock solid virtual support and service, www.yellowfiber.net comes to mind right now, my sites are NEVER down, EVER and the support is insane from them

if you have non-mission critical data on a virtual account, thats fine....

just be prepared for some other 14yo with allowance $ using the server to piss someone off in an IRC chat room & take your business down with him

It's worth bringing up DreamHost's new "private server" plan. A virtual server where you buy CPU and RAM. I guess that would mean a script is forced to stay within the account limits.

I am prepared to accept "some" downtime, this is an entertainment business, people will return later. We're not saving lives here.

I don't need a dedicated box just yet - i'm getting close, I know it - but to say everyone should have dedicated is just stupid and not cost effective.

This is my rule of thumb. My hosting costs shouldn't take more than 20% of my overall revenue in a month, if it does, I need to be re-evaluating my package.

That statement is total Bull Shit. I started years ago on a virtual with www.techiemedia.com and I never had a single problem. I have grown from that small virtual to 6 dedicateds now and push around 300+ megs, still with Techie Media. These guys are old school hosting gurus and simply rock whether it's a virtual or a dedicated. It's all about the quality and skills of the host, not just whether it's a virtual or a dedicated.:2 cents::2 cents:

Absolutely Sly, but the thread title is "Webair virtuals down again" instead of the guy saying his site is down.

I'm not saying they haven't had an issue here and there. The problem with Webair is that they have a huge number of accounts. Big accounts and small.

Unlike the other hosting companies they have continued to market to the boards which has brought them a mass amount of small guys who tend to fuck things up with their virtual hosted servers and cry about it on the boards.

The other hosts have gotten wise to that. That's why they don't advertise as much as they used to. I'm sure that all of you that have been around for a while have noticed that. The other big hosts don't really want the little guys that eat up $100 worth of support every month for a $9.99 virtual plan due to the small webmaster's fuck ups. Unfortunatly that's what comes from being so visible on GFY. I can't say I blame them.

uptime doesn't mean shit when your databases don't work, and whether or not that is what happened, as an end user, that is what I saw.

UPTIME is the first and most important thing in hosting .... If it isn't up ... it isn't good....

Databases worked ( joomla -as an example- on my site worked, and it is db driven ).

The WHM Autopilot script was having problems ... connecting to one db ....

Amazing how a fucking signup page gets all yout thong in a bunch .... Imagine if I was down like some hosts here....

I had daily issues with Virtual. Once i switched to dedicated, I've had few issues. Night and day!

I have that with webair...depends on how much BW you need it possible for $100....
