Camera Question

Camera question : we are looking into the Sony DSC-F707 / Nikon Coolpix5700 pricerange. What we need to do is hook the camera up to external synced flashes. Anyone have any experience with these cameras or similiar price range one in regards to syncing them to external flashes. Any stories good or bad appreciated. Thanks.

Rory

A used Olympus C-3000 (or other C camera) would probably fall in that price range and give you MUCH better photos than a new sub-$350 camera. I'd recommend getting the FL-40 flash as well. It allows for fill and bounce, which is how I shoot indoors.

I have the Sony F707 and love it, but I haven't hooked it up to an extrenal flash yet. I know it can be done, but I haven't done it myself yet...

@kamanrox: Next month there will be the upgrade of the C-4000 - The C-5000...

@TeraBabes: Next month there will be the upgrade of the Sony 707, the Sony 717... The 707 doesn't work with external flash, but the 717 has a standars hotshoe for flash...

Is sony finally putting hotshoes on their cameras? I have an FD95 and although it has a fill-flash mount, it's not a hotshoe, so when I use strobes I have to tape a business card in front of the built-in flash so I can bounce it to the sensors. That's about as close to "Slaving" as I can get!

If you're going to spend $350 on a digital, you probably won't be satisfied with its capabilities. I'd agree that looking for a good used one (If you can get a Nikon coolpix for aroung that, TAKE IT!)
is probably your best bet. Good luck man!

Just check to make sure the FL-40 flash unit works with it TTL. Otherwise, a C-4040 or even a C-3000 or C-3040 would be the better buy.

Minolta Dimage 5 is a minimum for affordable quality.
"syncing them to external flashes" works good.
