Need cellphone service for a year in USA - which?

Hi,
I will be visiting USA and will be in baltimore, maryland for a year. I need a cellphone connection and will need a cellphone as well.

Can anyone suggest a service that would give a good free cellphone? Any service gives a phone good enough for email and chat?

I dunno if they give a cellphone for email and chat, but Verizon has the best phone service in Baltimore. You can look on their site to see what free phones they have.

Sprint's SERO deal can't be beat. I pay $25 a month on my Treo for 500 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited internet. I've also got a 1400 minute plan that has the same addons and costs a bit more than $40.

I don't know how good Sprint is, but I had Nextel and it sucked as far as their network was concerned.

Is the Treo included in the cost?
