September 11 : What will you do to honor the memory of those who died?

It is coming up soo fast that this was starting to bother me because I was not sure what to do. I don't treat December 7 as anything other than a normal day during which I reflect on the memory of those whose lives were lost, and I expect that on September 11 will be no different. Perhaps I will put the American flag back on my car, and I will pause for a moment of silence during which think of those who lost their lives and pray that we will use our armed forces thoughtfully to kill those terrorist mother fuckers for the shit they perpetrated.

How will you honor the memory of those who died?

I used to be an EMT when I was younger so I know what kind of a job it is to be a firefighter, I worked alongside some of the best.

I may not do the job anymore, but I still consider every Paramedic, EMT, Fireman and EMS to be my comrades. And even though I'm Canadian, I still plan on honouring our fallen Brothers and Sisters to the South in my own way...

What happened affected not just the United States but the whole world, especially Canadians. I remember when it happened I called some friends of mine in the PPCLI to see what the fuck was up with the world and they couldn't WAIT for Canada to declare war on Afghanistan!

I actually got to meet and have a beer with the Canadian Sniper that took out the al-quaida truck triver from over a Mile and a Half away. Even though he's getting fucked around back home, he's still proud of the small part our Armed Forces played in Afghanistan...

Actually it was the reason I quit my corporate cushy job and come back to webmastering and servers. The assholes didn't see fit to give me three days off work when it happened to drive to NYC and look for my brother.

They wanted proof first ... like a death certificate. That was hard to get on sept 11th because I was hoping somehow he got out alive.

I'm sure it will. Except for the gig with Prohosters I am pretty much self employeed. And I work from home. So if anything ever happens again I will not need paperwork in triplicate signed by people who I'd nver get ahold of anyways.

Btw guys thanks for the support.

I will treat it as any other day..
We sure as hell don't stop and remember the 35 000 people that died of AIDS and starvation in Africa yesterday, the day before or every single other day. Although over 5 times the amount of people die every day over there, we focus in on Sept.11th, as it is all that much more important when it happens to 5000-7000 mostly middle class white people..
We can never heal our hurt, and start working on global peace if we concentrate on such things as the US gov't would have us do in order to keep their wars built on hate and lies alive..
My condolences for those that lost loved ones, this post of course doesn't apply to your lose is on a far more personal level than everyone else on here, but we all need to step back for a second and start paying more attention to the bigger picture, and start seeing the earth as a global community, instead of ignoring tragedies that are occuring in other countries on the planet that dwaft sept.11 until it seems like a crumb at the edge of a giant feast of death, suffering and injustice...

I agree.

When 1,000 people get killed in an African country, it's not even on the fucking news. But it happens in the states, and look out.l

Im disagree in a way, yes its tragic all the events that happen around the world, BUT sept 11 was americas loss and tragedy, Me personally i dont care whats goes on in africa or anywere else, What concerns me is whats happens on our homeland, this affects me directly.

9/11 was the WORST day in US history.. It deserves all the attention it gets.

9/11 makes me proud to be a new yorker and an american, we must show the world nothing can hold us down, nothing can stop freedom, when some asshole trys to make a statement.

If i lived abroad, i would probably care more on what goes on outside the usa.

The 3500, or 35,000 people that die every day in Africa from aids is very tragic. However, if they chose not to wear a condom how is that my fault?

The 3119 people that were murdered on Sept 11th were at work doing their job. Nothing more! Those people didn't do anything to deserve what happened to them!

How about the 20,000 people murdered by Union Carbide in Bhopal, India in 1984? Did they deserve what happened to them? But somehow, if you work near Wall St, your life is more imortant than if you live in a developing country like India.

You can read more about the Bhopal Massacre here

And in most of Africa you can't exactly go down to the nearest pharmacy to pick up some condoms. This is the third world you realize? They don't have shopping malls.

Yeah, or maybe they got it hugging their dead mother's bloody body because the rebels just invaded. Don't assume.

here's what i plan to do on sept 11th, to honor those that died:

nothing.

that is, i will get up, go to work, come home, have dinner, etc - all the usual stuff.

one thing i will definitely NOT do is watch the news or read the news online. i will not cheapen the incident by allowing others to profit from it. i am probably going to be in the minority on this, but i don't care.

if you think the 3500/35000 people who die every day in Africa die because they did not wear a condom, you are either very misinformed or highly ignorant.

In South Africa it's a pretty safe assumption. They won't even use the damn things. They like what's called "dry sex" or something like that, it greatly increases the chances of acquiring an STD (AIDS). I've done research on it before, unfortunately I don't remember much of it. Although, it's almost as if there's no hope unless they listen to the education that various countries are trying to provide them.

I think it's complete bull shit how people go after pharmaceutical companies because the prices of the drugs are expensive, what do you expect? A lot of money and time went into each pill. Since when is it some private companies responsibility to keep the world healthy, basically for free, when the people are not taking care of themselves or taking proper precautions.

I will probably do my own personal moment of silence, but beyond that, we've been bombarded with the footage ever since it happened, so it almost seems anticlimactic to do it again on one specific day.

People who were personally touched by it will no doubt have more emotions involved than those of us who just watched it on television.

For those of us on the west coast and that haven't really seen the WTC towers in person, I don't think it quite set in the way it did with those who live in the NY/NJ area or who worked in the neighborhood or visitied quite often.

I really felt detached from it as I saw the first tower crumble live on CNN. It wasn't until they started doing the interviews with those searching for loved ones that it hit me...and even then, it didn't hit hard until I found out that a business colleague was killed in the towers...

I'll still always have a rememberance in my heart, but it'll be tougher to cough up emotion this time, sicne it's been pounded into our skulls since it happened.

I also swear I'm boycotting Entertainment Tonight...their bullshit "what are your favorite celebs thoughts on 9/11?" stories and bullshit...fuck them...

I don't give a shit what Gwynneth Paltrow thinks about Osama Bin Laden......

Like salsbury, I'm not doing anything special. I'm taking my mother in law to the hospital to have a brain scan but that's about it. Had I not been doing that, I'd have been going to work like any normal day. I will NOT buy a newspaper specially ( I never buy one normally) nor will I watch the news (again don't do that either normally) or any other hype they try to broadcast. It was a terrible tragedy but I have a strong belief that people need to be healing, not wallowing in sorrow. Live your life and remember those you lost.
