Let me say it plain. I'm not bashing the initiative per se. I'm bashing the people that go to slay the dragon, find a cockroach instead and are all ready to celebrate.

Most of them are only roaches anyway. Your own numbers 70,000 members, 500 active? So you suggest less than 1% - so the million plus piuratebay users turns into, what, 10,000 actives by that logic?

Dead roaches are better than live roaches, and any positive result is better than sitting on the sidelines lobbing insults.

So then let's call it even, I was just fucking with you.

There's the kind of pompous, humourless asshole who can think just fine just as soon as someone tells him what to. Obviously you're not it. But there's plenty on GFY.

You can't fight technology, really. Honest. Look at DRM. After what, 20 years and billions sony&comp put into some working form of DRM, there's still people cracking two year projects in two weeks solo. Sometimes the stronger man is he who quits pissing in the wind first.

All the recent attention on the boards resulted in a bunch of people that
are ready to change that and take some form of action but to be honest
with all the noise we've made I'm still shocked how hard it is to get people
mobilized.......at times I wonder how nuts I am for convincing people who
their business is hurt by this to do something........most seem to have the
idea that it's a lost battle before they even try to do something about it.

May well be right.

Yea, this sounds sensible.

Yes you're right I understand what you're saying.....I didn't intend to get
into party mode because of the news I posted......but posting news like this
even when it's insignificant does sometimes help to get people motivated
to also stand up and contribute.......

I agree with your remarks regarding fighting technology......apart from the
fact the concept of torrents isn't anything bad at all I don't believe fighting
technology has any use........

The same goes for trying to make it impossible to steal content...People will
always find new ways to get around things in order to get them......so I don't
believe to find a solution in that.......but we should and could make it less
easy for people to grab it......the way things are now it's FAR too easy to
get it......we can make a lot harder than it is now.......and to do so is simple
and doesn't require rocket science solutions......a lot of sites don't have any
clue at all how to improve their protection with nothing more than a few simple steps that don't require programming or changes the way the store
and setup their content now. We can improve a lot by just simply sharing
knowledge that will improve this and doing so benefits everyone including the
ones that do know howto setup decent protection.....

But I think most results at this stage can be achieved not by technical
solutions or taking legal action......but by simply taking action to not just
let everyone get away with it as easy as they can do now......letting
people know we care and we will take action when people continue to
steal from us will already gain quite a bit of results........of course there's
sites and people who don't care and won't stop no matter what you tell
them....those should be dealt with later and with other means.....if we first
get rid of the many that will change their mind or aren't willing to take the
risk of further action I'm sure that only doing that already will make a more
than noticeable change.......

There's even tons download/torrent/p2p sites that don't make any money
at all, they just do it for fun and to impress their friends......

Getting rid of the ones that are the easiest regardless of the fact that they
may only have 100 users per day....has a big advantage later when going
after the big ones......having results to show in court that sites got closed
down makes it a lot harder for the accused party to defend their arguments
as being legal.......it's a lot easier to catch newbie sites for the same illegal
methods being used by the bigger and smarter ones.....

At first the bigger sites will profit from this strategy as it will drive more traffic
to them.....but at the same time the bigger they get the easier it will be to
proof that what they do is illegal and the bigger the damage it causes.....
so when they'll lose the consequences that come with that will have a much
bigger effect.........

Right now the focus shouldn't be to start a war with the goal to win it next week.....but rather to start doing something about it instead of just hoping it will go away.
once we start doing something about it....we'll get better at it along
the way learning from the mistakes we make.

Doing that doesn't cost anything else than a few minutes of people their time
and I'm sure that time will pay off in no time. I realise that getting people
together and able to effeciently work together is at this moment the biggest
challenge of all........it's without a shadow of a doubt more difficult than
achieving some results from our joint efforts that we can use once we're
able to work as a group instead of each for their own.........

I actually believe that the whole thing stands or falls with the fact if we're
able to work as a group.....if we can we will get positive results.....but if we
can't than all our efforts will be useless........

A big part of this problem is something we can control.......and at the same
time it's totally up to us if we'll succeed to be able to benefit from make use
of that control......:2 cents:

I'm not claiming I have all the knowledge and the perfect way to solve
this whole issue......I may be wrong on a lot of the things I suggest....but
I'll gladly be corrected by anyone coz it's not about who's right or wrong...
it's about how much we all together can do and contribute so we can deal
with these problems...and 100 brains together know a lot more than 1....
af least that's for sure in my case and with my brain.......:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh
