It may be more relevant to concentrate on the next few centuries on earth and be of practical use. The fact is we have not solved relatively simple problems in comparison - world food, disease and altenative energy etc. Maybe then they can start on how to not fuck up the planet? Duh??

Sure.. nothing wrong with knowledge-gathering and understanding more of the planetary system, but hell - we are so damned backward and dumb about this planet - the only 100% certain prospect is in screwing up/contaminating other planets. Until we can get a clue about managing ourselves - what point??

The entirety of humanity... with so many different individuals... with so many diverse interests... is pretty proficient at multi-tasking.

This could be very important to our understanding of the big bang and how the universe formed. Every now and then we have to take a different look at established science.

if you don't see the value in humans exploring their existence in the universe, then it's people just like yourself that you speak of: backward and dumb.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copernicus

read that.

at one time people really thought the world was flat and at the center of the universe. in fact, if you said otherwise, you'd be killed. if no one told you that the earth was round, you'd assume it was flat too.

it's a little more than 'knowledge-gathering'.

your post is so fucking stupid i want to cry. stop assuming 'we' includes myself in your own intellectual grouping.

esnem 08-24-2007 06:51 PM

Greywolf, you're the kind of person that should just shut their mouth and enjoy the ride as we hurl around on this planet through space. you think you know everything.

The backward and dumb are the idiots who can't even manage their own environment (literally their own backyard), - can't even produce the level of products they consume, can't generate their own power/fuel, can't even produce their own food ad nausea - THAT is backward and dumb.

Did I say there was something wrong with exploring the universe? Nope. Get a clue before typing shit - but again.. it's GFY so expect little else.

Nope

you sure sounded like it from your first post.

you do realize those problems you listed may never be solved. in the meantime, people shouldn't explore space until we cure all diseases?

Don't worry - nobody will be exploring "six billion trillion miles of nothing" anytime soon.

Meanwhile, there are areas of this planet which are totally unsustainable at varying levels (including industrialized countries), other areas being totally fucked (again, including industrialized countries), around 16,000 kids dying of starvation daily (and increasing), a billion people live on less than $1 per day and many more dying simply thru inadequate and often simple healthcare. The number of "rich" populations (with adequate resources - tho these many be leeched from the poor) is 1 billion, compared to over 5 billion "poor" (with insufficent resources).

As a planet it may appear we have a lot to learn before attempting to transfer this fuck up elsewhere and it may be more appropriate to address that now than speculate in conquering space. Gaining further knowledge of other planets is not an issue - dealing with our own planet leaves plenty work to be done.

Sure.. they may never be a cure for all diseases. Further diseases most likely will be created in the future.

i am going to school you on some 6th grade science. the way Copernicus discovered the world was round was by observing the stars and the planets. at the time this may have sounded ridiculous, wasting time looking at the sky -there was wars going on somewhere!

let me repeat something, THEY STILL THOUGHT THE FUCKING EARTH WAS FLAT.

nobody knew what his theories would lead to. it turns out the fucking earth really is round.

let me recap for you, the guy was the first person to say that the fucking earth wasn't flat. look around, shit looks flat to me.

now that we know the earth is round and you know everything, there must not be anything else for us to figure out. looking past idiots like yourself on earth has solved world problems before, i guess you know it's not going to happen again :1orglaugh

Yeah, yeah - the earth is flat and everything is rosy - pointless.

I don't need a education via GFY - but thanks for your wealth of wisdom.

You are an idiot - grow up try and get a clue and the education you clearly missed - and meantime try not to advise anyone on anything - and try not to discuss anything - it's embarassing :thumbsup

this is why gfy is so entertaining. you have smart people and stupid people. in real life, we would probably never associate. on the board we get to argue who is the smart one.

thanks for the credit for that quote, but i believe it belongs to socrates. you stupid fucking human.

wouldn't you say that the thing about stupid people is that they don't know they're stupid?

This also applies to total ignorance - they just don't know how ignorant they really are :thumbsup
