I still might go canon, not needing to make a decision today. I dumped all my top nikon glass so it doesn't matter which body I get really. need new glass anyway

Of course but I think with film it was 100% percent the case but with digital the quality of the camera can make a big difference on image quality.

I'm a Canon boy and have a fairly heavy investment in bodies and lenses (ie, a loss considering it's just a hobby). I won't be changing anytime soon, but I'm still glad to see Nikon coming up with something to keep everyone on their toes.

I've been a photograher for 12 years, always loyal to Nikon since the begining, until recently. I've purchased starting of with the d1x then the D2h for backup followed by the D2x, all within the last three years, thats over $12,000 in cameras. Every model I bought lasted about 1 year before going to shit! I'm so over Nikons Digital cameras! I'm switching to Cannon for ever

the dx glass automatically sets the D3 to dx mode, so it;s no problem at all really. I never bought any dx glass anyway and the D300 is dx BTW

that's weird, I used to burn up bodies shooting like crazy however every camera body burned up shooting content so I wouldn't blame it on nikon. what I do is get the bodies repaired on warranty and sell them right away while they still have value. get new ones, what's the big deal with that? just part of the deal. the canon shooters have the same problem with bodies that shoot mucho content.

the D3 is going for 300K bangs on the shutter. I'm really interested in getting one and that's a fact. can't wait to see the images. it's a perfect upgrade for the d2hs I have. fast, low light, great focus. small files.

and with that i guess you dont care about the iso200 lower end? since its the same on the d2h if i recall..
i'd love to get full frame.. was considering the 18-200 ed vr DX lens..now i am not so sure.. yes i can still use, but on using part of the sensor. might as well go for the 70-200 vr ed then. any ways i will not be getting it right off the shelf, they always have issues with the first batches..

the 200 isn't really that much of an issues I have a 1 stop ND and yes the d2hs is at 200. don't think I'd like the 18-200. I have 18-35/2.8 right now, I'll get 28-70 and 70-200. I like 2.8 glass.

not really sure if I'm gonna go canon yet or not. I'm thinking from what I k now that the D3 is gonna be the very best lowlight shooter on the market for sometime.

FF with only 12 mega pix means very low noise, I've been reading 1600 like 400 on the d2x. and that my friend is very very clean. so that would mean @ 3200 a very usable image. just imagine that.

The nice thing about film was you made the investment in the pro camera body and it was with you until you retired, now its every three years time for change.

I sold my pro film body. had the nikon F5. loved that body now all I have are 2 nikon F's and 1 nikorex. I have a the 35, 58 and 105 for those bodies. I learned to shoot with a meter and no camera electronics at all

I thinks that's the best way to learn. understanding the meter in the camera has been my biggest challenge, right after understanding the glass that is.

light is no problem at all for me really.

low light? I like to mess with natural light situations. high asa helps at times. sometimes I wanna shoot against ambient and high asa helps with that too. sometimes I night wanna use a small source. what ever room you have in your camera just helps. don't shoot in open sun or direct sun much so I don't really need low asa's.

been lighting since 1983, so lite isn't an issue with me. I have solid concept about fucking around with it. and lights not just on or off and that's a fact. you'll see that when you go to deans workshop. light is really very amazing with so many wonderful qualities that you can pick and choose from. and where you put the light really matters too. and what light you put where really matter too. you'll see.

yeah i got some ideas on lighting too, have done it for a few years.. but i look forward to learning more..last week i was in phoenix and worked with some of the pros out there..i have also worked with johnny olsen, richard drinkard, stephen nichols and jerry avenheim..
myself like natural light also, but.. its not always around.. and most of my clients prefer well lit photos. but i like non grainy photos..and i actually like shooting in the sun.. most photogs dont like it becuz they cant control the light and use scrims and other shading materials..
so will i see you there?

I won't be there. I use scrims if I shoot in open sun myself. love the look of a strobe with scims in hot daylight. ya gotta shoot at F 16 though. looks amazing especially with a soft box. I love a soft box outside.

the only problem is I need a crew. and well you know the budgets you have to work with. not worth the effort really.

well if you have iso50 avail, you dont need f16, but i guess you could use ND filter instead.. thats what i used to do with the S2 which can only sync at max 1/125

too bad i was hoping to see ya ther..

yes the more artistic and perfect we want to get, the more tools and people we need. lighting, mua, stylist, assistant etc.. it becomes a production.

I prefer just me and a model. the amount of content needed for clients makes that impossible at some pint when you strive for quality. ever seen my personal work? very simple stuff. B&W. just me and the girls. I only need a few pics from a shoot not 1200

I wouldn't say canon was there 5 years ago and here's why. I've been shooting digital SLR's for over 6 years and if canon was that far ahead seems I would have noticed. don't ya think? and there would be no nikon today. nice try dipshit

When I read this I thought you were smoking something (the 1D Mark III has been out for several months) but I checked and you're right about the 1Ds Mark III ... IT'S FINALLY HERE!

I have a 1Ds Mark II, it's time to go green with envy
