Who is your favorite director?

I am a long standing Kevin Smith fan so I guess that I should say him but for more quality films I think mine would be Alfonso Cuarón who is the person that directed Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (the only one I think is a quality film) and Y tu mamá también.

So, who is your favorite director?

so hard to say, so many great ones
my favorite is likely Dario Argento, but I'd also have to add Peter Jackson, Robert Rodriguez, Kevin Smith, Stanley Kubrick and Ingmar Bergman
I'd also have to toss John Woo and Takashi Miike in there too, so many, hehe

Alfonso Cuaron is great. Francis Ford Coppola also comes to mind and Gullermo del Toro (Pan's labrynth), Martin Scorcesse and cannot leave out Steven Spielberg of course.

I actually felt as if I was being disloyal not listing Gullermo del Toro because I really enjoy his works (I have a thing for Mexican/Latin American film at the moment). I knew somebody else would mention him though ;)

Next time I'll probably list the ones I'm forgetting now, like Charlie Chaplin, Joel Coen, Michael Curtiz, John Carpenter, etc...

Hitchcock, and if you do not understand why then you may not understand movie making yet.

Hard to choose - each has something to offer. There are so damn many directors with cred.

For consistancy and quality output - people like Stanley Kubrick, David Lean,

For persistancy, Frank Coppola (he sure needed it )

For impact on the current industry, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas partnership.

People like Afred Hitchock have their own place - these people were the mentors of many new directors.
