Program owners: Do you allow affiliates to...

Promote your site(s) using this type of tactic:

www.exploitedcollegegirls.at

If so, why? It's type in traffic that was meant to go to your site. If yes, then what is your reasoning?

Kind Regards,

Eric

I know of sites doing the same thing except they are sending ALL the traffic to OTHER sites and not mine--taking my type-in traffic basically. Bothered me for about 10 seconds then I was past it. In your case, that traffic is going to you. You can block him as an affiliate and have him just send the traffic elsewhere. Personally, I don't think you should mind as ya, it's type in traffic, but no saying they'll click your site even if they type it in. This guy is possibly attracting members you wouldn't get. For all you know he might also be sending traffic to that domain via other means and just wants to make it look more legit as they move from that page to your domain.

I'm pretty sure ".at" type-in traffic is pretty low, if any at all.

With that said, so be it. You should have picked up every possible combo / type-o of that domain. We have guys that do it to us, and more power to them. They were smarter than we were. I would rather get some of that money that have him send it to another program with a like site.

The reason is that domain without someone working it would get NO TRAFFIC what so ever, just like www.brookeskye.at would be in that same boat, but because its been developed we now see some traffic from it....

Personally I don't have the time to do all the work our 1000s of affiliates do. That's really the whole point of having them....

Why not? This is just another landing page... Anyway affiliate himself promotes this page and thus gets his %

as well as the sponsor gets their chunk

Thank you for the replies. I respect your opinions, but my gut is telling me that it isn't right.

I googled "exploited college girls" and "exploitedcollegegirls" and the website, exploitedcollegegirls.at came up within the top 4 in the search engine finds. IMO, if this affiliate is truly bringing me sales that I wouldn't otherwise get, then s/he would be able to do it using a different domain name.

Hell, I might as well set up Ebay.at and tell Ebay that they shouldn't care as I'm not taking any business from them.

I've sent the affiliate an email and will possibly take action based on our dialogue.

I see nothing wrong with that.

Be happy that it's promoting your site and not your competition.

no problem here. I actually bought a paysite that was a .net and am lucky enough to have the .com owner of the domain as an affiliate. If it works, then it works. Better to have friends/affiliates then enemies.

Depends On Your SEO

Are you talking about Search Engine traffic or type-in traffic based on your domain name?

Either way there's nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned. If he has the time and the talent to build link relationships and good keyword-phrase relevancy that you don't, then more power to him and more traffic to you.

If typing in the actual domain name brings his .at over and above your .com, then I think it's time to have a sit down with your SE guy... or get one :P

I have done this as an affiliate for years and have done quite well. With many programs. Not one program has ever had a problem with it. They like sending me checks, I like sending them traffic. It is certainly your decision to decide whether or not you want your affiliates doing that, but in my opinion, you are really wasting your time and worried about the wrong things.

I will gladly take this type of traffic to Archive Cash or Gay Gravy. Send away guys!

If you pull that stunt on the affiliate I hope he keeps the site up high in the SE's and sends it somewhere else. It's not like you can take his domain name.

IMO, you are fucking yourself if you do that, and it is a prick move.

I have seen some sites that specifically say they don't want their sites promoted that way, which is fine, but you should make that clear before someone signs up and puts a bunch of work into promoting your site.

It's not like it is even a typo or type-in, he had to work to get that SE position.

As evildick said make it clear in your TOS that you do not allow such promotion, and then to cover your butt legally. Pay the money and get a trademark on your name.

Otherwise do not bitch, do not complain, and do not get pissed if they are ranking high off of a domain name you did not decide to register and develop.

Yes, I understand that people feel I'm wrong for not liking the marketing tactic this affiliate is using. However, if he is employing a commonly accepted practice within the adult industry, then I will allow it.

I started this thread seeking the answer to a question. I now have an answer and will allow this affiliate to continue his marketing method.

Thank you all for your input.

Regards,

Eric

yeah, without sites like this in the top 10, chances are they will lost the traffic to the real spammers who dont send the traffic to them and send it off to some toolbar, thats what this guy deserves.
