Are lower quality videos necessary anymore?

Do you think lower quality video clips for dial up users are necessary in members areas any longer?

I think something like 75% of the U.S. market has broadband, and I would guess an even higher percentage of people who join a paysite have broadband.

Is it necessary to spend the time and the disk space to encode in lower bitrates for these members, or do you just offer vids in high quality (full length and clips of course)

No, high quality is all you need

Yes, you need a variety of speeds to match the members connections

I no longer offer dial-up clips in my members area. I only offer the full length WMV movies. Honestly, since I've gone that route... I haven't received one complaint.

I'm sure I may be cutting out a certain percentage of unfortunate souls, but the last thing I would want to do if I only had dial-up would be join a porn pay site. Even small 5-6 meg clips took forever to download.

Nope in my opinion those on dial up cant afford broadband, so less than likely to buy a subscription. Plus our HD sites arent or dialupers anyways..

We still encode for dialup. Many international users still use it. ;)

I have asked my members about including the low quality video. They gave me an interesting answer.

They said that they like to watch the low quality version while they're busy downloading the high quality file.

                    LOL, that's funny.

If that's the case they really don't need the low quality version....not if you offer them clips.
