Virus may cause obesity

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...ow_article= 1

Interesting stuff. Could this be the reason why active people who eat average amounts of food are somehow obese?

Maybe for 1 % of the obseses out there, the other 99 % just eat too much fatty food and don't exercise.

This is funny

Didn't Dennis Leary do this in his stand up 15 years ago, I laughed my ass off then and I did again when reading this.

If people spent as much time working out & eating healthy, as they did trying to figure out why they were fat, they wouldn't be fat anymore.

I agree with the naysayers that the majority of obesity comes from lifestyle choices. I've known people, however, with healthy diets, great exercise habits and weight problems

This is interesting.

you may want to reconsider what you think you know about "healthy diets" and "great exercise habits".

I agree with fuzzy, there is no one with a healthy diet and great exercise habits that is obese.

Oh ya, ya'll haven't heard of this virus? There are many different forms of this virus depending on where it was mutated.

In the South its called the country gravy virus. It causes large amounts of gravy to be poured on all their food. Horrible sickness.

Send those fat people to live in the Ethiopia for about a year. I can guarantee they would come back thin as a stick.

I eat fatty foods all the time. I don't exercise. I drive everywhere. I'm skinny as hell (unfortunately). I don't eat and snack constantly though.

The reason people become obese, is because they eat 3 plates of food at every meal, and snack constantly. Who would have thought that stuffing your face would make you fat? Lies, it must be a virus.

Not always true. I am thin and I know fat people who eat the same as me AND are more physically active than me. So what is going on here?

It is a fact that the thyroid can cause people to be either obese or insanely skinny depending on how active or should I say under/overactive it is.

I think this study is BS though. I wonder if anyone is already doing a study to see if the fact that someone is obese and out of shape that their immune system is damaged and therefore they have a higher chance of not being able to fight off the virus.

I personally wouldn't consider myself obese, but if I don't take care of myself and watch what I eat. I can pile on pounds very quickly. My metobolic rate is slower and I believe this is due to the fact that as a kid I ate very little protein and lived on carbs, luckily I was always active and played sports. But when I hit my mid 20s my activity slowed way down and I watched the pounds pile on.

So now I have to be careful and eat good and continue my activity level.

There are many reasons people are heavy. A Virus is not one of them. I call BS

I think what a lot of people are failing to realize, and the article even points this out, is that this virus could be just a FACTOR in some people's weight gain.

With that being said, there are MANY FACTORS, involved in weight gain, and sure while it seems it's root problem may be in people eating too much, these scientists are also trying to find out why people eat too much.

I watched a NOVA episode just a few weeks ago where they have found that some people have a damaged receptor where their brain never tells them they are satiated. All you see is some fat slob eating more than he / she should, but what you are not seeing is someone who's body does not work exactly like yours.

That person who has the damaged receptor can exercise all damn day long, and try to diet, but they are prone to failure, because their body is telling them constantly they are hungry.

They have also found in studies that when dieting your body works against you to maintain what it learns over time is a set weight point.

For example, if you weight 175 for 10 or so years, that becomes a set weight point for your body. If you diet and lose 10 pounds, your body starts to work harder to gain that weight back, and vice versa when you do gain weight.

However if you weight 175 pounds for 10 years, and you gain 10 pounds, your body will fight to go back to that 175, but if you continue to put on weight at some point your body will create a new set point. So, if you lose the weight, you have to keep that weight of for an extended period of time for it to create that new set point.

Either way, you're fucked if you fail in the slightest bit.

Take me for example. I've had the lap band and have lost 65 pounds. However, my brain still tells me all day long that I am hungry, at times I feel like I'm starving, even though my stomach can only handle 4oz of food per meal.

I will constantly have to fight this craving, in order not to cheat, and ultimately undo what I have accomplished this far. This is not just something I will have to face for the next year, but it seems my entire life time.

There are many physical factors as to why people eat, this is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak, because we haven't even gone into the psychological factors.

The problem is your body cannont produce fat, it can only store it. At some point any fat person ate that fat, PERIOD.

This seems like another lame excuse for fatasses
