google - duplicate content penalty

How long after you remove the duplicated content from the other sites will it take for you to get back your original google listing?

I'm certain my domain was removed from the top spot for a very popular word for this reason.

Also our site did get some assholes posting galleries with trojans on for about 2 days before we blacklisted them. This may or not have contributed to us getting dropped also. We still have the same page rank in the google tool bar and the site does show in google if you search for the full title.

Can this be fixed or is this domain pretty much fucked now? it's an old site over 7years old now so i don't really want to scrap it.

Cant speak for the trojan stuff. But thereis no set time for dupe penalty time, & I seriously doubt your domain is fucked.

Just be a good little webmaster in googles eyes and keep updating with unique and you should be back within weeks rather than months.

ok cool, that's good news. The site is juicyboobs.com. Hopefully we'll start working on it again and google will pick it up in the future.

thanks for the replies.

Site #1 cant be penalized by site#2 duplicating its content , only site #2 will be penalized.

Or else i could simply duplicate my competitions website and drop their rank.

It took about 3-4 months before Google has returned PR to my splogs banned for duplicated content.

P.S. Google always check which site has published the mentioned content first. The others will be considered as duplicators.

How does Google know which site posted first? Doesn't it spider some sites far more often than others?

I've been trying to figure out why a couple of my sites are in Google really weird at the moment i.e. getting found on competitive unrelated keywords and not getting found on less competitive more relevant keywords.

The one who was the first indexed is no penalized, the others are, and after removing it, it takes a long time for Google to lift the penalty ...

You can always do an re inclusion request in the webmaster tools area: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

I did that for a couple of my domains that got spanked by the duplicate content penalty. Hopefully they'll get around to reviewing my request sometime this year...

I had the same problems with 2 sites.. but for me, after 7-8 months its come back in SERP.

But be carefully...maybe you are not penalized, Google in the last month dance a lot and change their mathematical algorithms for every week, try to study your competitors.. maybe you need to work more to the SEO aspect of your site. In 2007 more big sites are out of search, at this time if you don't have quality back links and content = no traffic.
Good luck!

So would sponsor's hosted galleries possibly be considered "duplicate content"?

I've never gotten penalized once for dup content on different sites, and I have about 15 sites that have all the same content

I think the dup content rule is more of dup content on the same site
