This is why I haven't used the library in almost 20 years

The library here in Vegas sends out overdue notices via email, they also send out 3 day notice on when items are due.

Along with a couple of books I checked out, I took out some movies, one of them was Coach Carter.

So I just got home and I see an email saying that it's 10 days overdue. I don't have the video, I took it in on Saturday the 11th the day it was due along with 3 other movies that show they have been checked in.

So I called them, and now they are telling me that if they do not find the movie I have to pay $29.99 for the movie, plus a $10 fine. WTF? This is a movie I could purchase at Wal-Mart probably for $9.99, hell it might even be in the $7.99 bin. Why would I keep this fucking movie?

If they make me pay, honestly, I will go up there give them the $40 along with my card, tell them to shred it and stick it up their pompous asses.

I check-out movies from my local library all the time. It's free and they carry the latest titles and some really good documentaries and foreign films that places like Blockbuster doesn't carry. Plus it's literally across the street from my apartment. Takes all of three seconds to walk over there. Why pay $3.95/movie or $15/mo for something you could get for free? It's like paying for oranges when you have an orange tree in the backyard.

Sorry to hear about the mix-up that really sucks. Hope they find the title and get it sorted out for you.

Exactly...I was really surprised at the amount of movies that this library had...the documentaries alone could take me a year to watch.
However, it's like dealing with any place that allows you to drop something off, if it disappears they hold you responsible.

The last time I had this happen with my library back in Texas, they gave me all kinds of shit. Haven't used the library since, other than every now and then to hit their booksale and pick up something interesting

Libraries are a riot. The internet killed their educational power, so now a lot of them are moving towards entertainment.... all funded by local tax dollars of course.

The library by me is always after more money, citing increased library cards being issued. They didn't like it when I asked them the ages of the people getting all these new cards and if they were being forced to use the library.
