I thought they were all dead or in rehab. Great, another aging rock band going on tour. Seriously though, does anybody really think Diamond Dave can even come halfway to the energy level he had when he was fronting the band before? There's no way. I'm calling that it will be a lame and boring show.

If Dave thinks he is going to do the same act, a old guy doing it will look silly and sad. I hope wolfie can sing because all those amazing VH backing vocals were Micheal Anthony.

Agreed. I have seen Van Halen a few times "back in the day", and the shows were incredible!

I was 2nd row - center for their stop in Winnipeg at the tail end of their 1984 tour, their last tour with the original band, and glad of it. They'd be great to see again now but I doubt they'll be as up on their game as they were back then. :D

And... this is an "I'll believe it when I see it" tour, they've had so many tours set lately and then for one reason or another they crap out.

Whup, Dave and Eddie hate each other again, the deal's off.
Oops, Eddie's in rehab this month, sorry no tour
Hold up, Michael Anthony broke a hip, we'll try again next year.

On the upside I hear the Scorpions are actually ON tour right now. They're worth seeing.

The Scorpions have been on tour pretty consistantly for the last 10 years or so. They are one of the true road dog acts at this point.

Classic rock has turned out to be the equivilant of the big band stuff my parents listen to... and still go to the shows for. In my mind, being a classic rock fan is the first step towards the retirement home and the padded room.

Be glad its only Michael Anthony. Eddie said earlier this year on Stern it was almost just going to be Eddie & his son until he patched things up with Roth and Hagar.

Lock me up then, because classic rock is golden to me, so many incredible priceless gem tunes spanning 5 decades. So much history there, some of which you'll never hear anything like it again. It's precious, and hardly anything for young know-nothing upstarts to be mocking. Not saying that's you exactly but some young'uns do scoff and mock which tells me they have zero understanding of their own music and where it evolved from.

Fact is, and I was surprised by this.... there are actually plenty of kids today that DO listen to classic rock and seem to have an appreciation of it's worth and meaning etc.

Hey, I was born in the early 60's but I still have an appreciation for 50's rock. Without earlier rock than now does anyone really think today's music would exist as is?

I totally agree. I am 25 and can't stand the shit that most people my age listen to. It's sickening to think that people actually like whats considered "music" these days.

It's only the good music that counts - and if it rocked 20 / 30 / or 50 years ago - no matter - there are no genre or age boundaries, it's like most people are spitting on something they never even bothered to get familiar with, plus you gotta judge in the frame of the genre and time it happened (there you realize how Jerry Lee Lewis kicked and still kicks ass for example).

Although many acts you see through the eyes of nostalgy (and you just have the great associations when you hear this or that song), real souls who created something and played their ass on 101 pct. won't get old and there are many acts that I don't listen to, but still respect in every way.

It's like I have my theory of conformity vs. revolty in the music evolution, that doesn't work now:

50's easy listening tunes make young lads listen to Rock n Roll that is sucesfully evolving into Rock music, 60's: hippies won't make it for everyone so there are already Black Sabbath, Stoogies and The Velvet Underground.

Once radio rock turns into the arena rock in the late 70's punk and heavy metal are on the raise (which was still underground those days) among with the start of the disco music on the other end, which is far the most easy listening thing since ages.

In the eighties, heavy metal evolves into hair metal and getsal arena once again, while underground harder / power metal bands are on the raise, dubbed with some of the visually most compelling era of 80's pop.

Hair metal won't do it for everyone so it's raw seattle sound coming in and the start of the nineties among with many great bands (jane's addiction, Rollins Band ..) and among with some of the long lasting acts get back to shape first half of the nineties rocks.

But then?..

it's been twelve years since I am waiting for something to happen, but there is nothing.

Everything is artificially flavoured and the new bands are almost projected to cover every new listeners taste - there is something for eveyone, you want some punk - go get some wankers who are trying to fill the "punk" or "teen punk" gap. You want some rock? - go get some wankers who are looking like they are living it that will fill the "rock" gap.

Not to mention the rise of hip hop - the genre that never ever should come out of the closet and it's massive global spread is nothing but an incredible thing that the music industry "marketers" were able to achieve..

I'm stoked to see Roth for sure. He has a great stage presence, well atleast in the 80's he did.

There's a reason it's classic... people of all ages still listen to it, you think anyone will be listening to 50 cent or other crap that comes out today in 2 years let alone 20?

Also, not quite sure what you're talking about, i've been to lots of "classic rock" concerts and it's mostly a younger crowd that shows up. Most of today's music doesn't have true fans, they have customers that buy the music because of good advertising. Funny that none of today's bands are respected for their music (when is the last time you heard something about Britney Spears as a musician?) or can keep a fan base for more than a few years.

Their Seattle date is Dec 3rd.

Who I wanna go see right now is Genesis. They aren't coming up here though. Closest is gonna be San Jose and LA. If they were gonna be in Vegas I might do it.. not really relishing the thought of LA just for a concert.

They tried this a few months ago also and it collapsed real quick.

As a fan all I can do is hope and believe it when I am actually at the concert watching.

look at how the van halen I record in the top left corner doesnt have michael anthony anymore - replaced with wolfgang van halen.

then,

look at women and children first - no band shot at all - Eddie is editing MA out of the VH history books it seems

Van Halen was the first international band I saw back in 1983, I was too young, but after that my only goal in life was to play "Cathedral". Now I can play most of Van Halen (DLR era) tunes but... "Cathedral"!

Anyway, I hated them with Sammy Hagar or that Extreme guy, not because of the singer, but because of that lame synth pop thingy. Hope they get back to their old songs, altho I guess if DLR makes a jump like in 83 or 84 he'll die

All because littel bitch Eddie is throwing a tantrum over Michael playing some gigs with Sammy. If I was Michael I'd kick the shit out of that little demented alcoholic cokehead.
