DESIGNERS WHO CAN'T MAKE DEADLINES... [rant]

Damn man... I understand if shit comes up, just let a muh fucka know.

Don't get scared and log off of ICQ as soon as I log on, ignore my emails and ICQ messages, and wait till I'm offline to send me some bullshit excuse.

If you are over booked, stop accepting new jobs! Or let the client know he/she has to wait. It's that simple!

Oh yeah, and just because you have some kick ass low prices doesn't mean you can pull stunts! People are paying you for a service and deserve to get what you agreed to give them and on time!

GOD DAMN IT!

There are tons of designers that don't meet deadlines. I have to admit I have done it myself a couple of times, sometimes the workload just gets too much

Secret tip: full timers meet deadlines; when they log off ICQ, they get fired.

yeah but like cyber hustler said, not making a deadline and being upfront and honest about the situation is way different than ducking and hiding.

yeah for sure, I'd never sign of or ignore a client because I was late, it's only going to make the situation worse.

I honestly like to hire the little guys to help them out with their portfolios and give them some business if it's not a big complicated job.

SOMETIMES the lower priced guys do a better job and have nicer looking portfolios in my opinion.

Don't duck and hide and make bullshit excuses no matter what price you set. I'm a very easy person to deal with, just be honest with me and let me know whats going on.

You can have it fast, you can have it good, or you can have it cheap. If you wanted it fast, it won't be good and usually not cheap, and so on.

When I give people a timeline, I always give myself extra time for a cushion so I don't run into the situation. If I think it's going to take me 3 days, I'll say 4 or 5 just to be safe. That way I can deliver early, or at least on time.

it happens. even with being paid. but some just dont give themselves enough time in their estimation in trying to make themselves look good...

Whatever. If its good... that helps the situation.

designers are the flakes of this industry

over the years I've heard every excuse in the book, recycled and reused to the point where I refuse to pay up front for anything anymore.

Top Designer Flake Excuses - please feel free to add your own

1) family member died/in hospital/contracted some life threatening disease
2) hurracaine/tornado/floods/locusts/fire/plague of rats hit the area
3) internet "down"/cut off (most likely not paid for)
4) pet got ran over/broke a leg/died/grew an extra head/attacked my mom
5) icq "not working"/lost logs/lost contacts/didnt get my messages
6) pc crashed/windows died/lost backups/blew up/grew wings and flew away
7) family member or partner on drugs/gone AWOL/in car crash/joined religious cult

Oh nah... I didn't pay up front. I don't pay up front anymore, I learned my lesson. Either trust me or I take my business else where. It's either me or them and i'm not losing my money. I don't have a history of cheating so I never had a problem where a designer wouldn't do the job if I didn't pay up front yet

This is a pretty funny post ... have you really had this many bad experiences but you still haven't learnt how to avoid getting screwed? I'd say that reflects as badly on you as it does on the designers you hire.

You should learn to use photoshop ... its really easy & would save you so much stress & frustration!!

I've yet to meet a designer who has been on time..it's like a code of ethics..when they say 2 weeks, they mean a month plus

designers cant make deadlines many times cause people wanting the work done mostly dont know what they want and are not able to give straight informations to follow. there are problems on both sides man! not only designers are bad ... as i read most times ...

Not going to advertise our studio - just wanted to tell you, that some stuff out of this list happened to us... Though we work full time and I'm always online...

Like this one - "3) internet "down"/cut off " - but not because not payed for. Not so long ago we had a serious hurracaine and the whole our region was down for 10 days until the problem was solved. And we couldn't do anything about it - just had to finish the projects locally... So basically we disappeared for these 10 days that's an awful experience... Especially when you have everything scheduled. But still it was kinda our mistake - so the troubles we had with deadlines were solved in the favour of the clients.

And this one - icq "not working" - sometimes it really bitches refusing to log in... Probably their servers are not 100% trustful... Besides this one - didn't get my messages - happened couple of times and recently I noticed that vise versa also... Sometimes I don't get messages from the clients... But troubles with ICQ are rear...

This one - pc crashed/windows died - happened once and we had to deal with data recovery... But it's easier when you have a lot of PCs in the studio - part ly each of them contains necessary info, but still it takes some time to pull everything together again...

And this one - family member or designer got sick or family member died - really no one is insured against such things... At the moment our coder is in hospital with high temperature... Last week me myself ate something wrong and was recovering almost for a day...

All I'm trying to say is that we all people and shit happens in our life...

But what we need is to be more responsible than we are. And it touches a lot of designers here and there. And not only designers - these things can happen to anyone as I've mentioned.

SO:

STAY PEACEFUL
KEEP EACH OTHER INFORMED
STAY IN TOUCH WHATEVER HAPPENS

And KEEP TO THE ONCE GIVEN WORD

this will help and earn you respect
