Question for you bloggers.

How many of you understand the concept and value of trackbacks?

Lots of responses.. I guess your question is answered.

I try to use trackbacks when I can, but not all sites post them, not all give any link value back, not all blog niches have them. But they are still of value if you can find the correct niches and situations to use them, or people that don't check them.

They can be a lot of work . . . like contacting the person you want to trackback with and finding one that understands the value.

If I decide to write a tutorial you will be the first to know. In the meantime: http://www.google.com/search?q=what+...8,GGGL:en&aq=t

I think more people in mainstream understand the value than those in adult. Adult bloggers seem to look at it more as a traffic leak (which is completely ridiculous of course).

Well, I used to belong to this group of blogs and we all did trackbacks each day. Thing is everyone gave up on it - Baddog maybe you can tell me why that was?

I think some people decided blogging was too much work. Then there was one that lost his database.

Combination of factors I guess.

I know I use trackbacks but am amazed at the number of people who do not seem to know what it is. So wikipedia thank you.

A Trackback is an acknowledgment. This acknowledgment is sent via a network signal (ping) from the originating site to the receiving site. The receptor often publishes a link back to the originator indicating its worthiness. Trackback requires both sites to be Trackback enabled in order to establish this communication. Trackback does not require the originating site to be physically linked to the receiving site.

Trackbacks are used primarily to facilitate communication between blogs; if a blogger writes a new entry commenting on, or referring to, an entry found at another blog, and both blogging tools support the TrackBack protocol, then the commenting blogger can notify the other blog with a "TrackBack ping"; the receiving blog will typically display summaries of, and links to, all the commenting entries below the original entry. This allows for conversations spanning several blogs that readers can easily follow.

Now adult social bookmarking sites recognize the value of trackbacks why don't most bloggers?

You think blogging rules are dependent on whether your blog is adult or mainstream?
