I never explain, only because people are hypocrites.

Why bother explaining to people (and lets face it, they never quite get it) what you do when chances are they'll form a negative opinion of you but, wont have any issues going home, switching on the PC and jacking themselves silly to it 5 minutes later.

So its always "I design website templates"

As a result I was investigated and if things had gone really badly I could have had mydaughter taken away. Fortunately, I live in "the valley" and attitudes are a bit more liberal here becuase it's so common. People here may not approve of it, but they have learned to live with it anmd almost accept it. It's almost as if when you are asked what you do "I have an internet business" it's automatically assumed that it's an adult business.

Everybody that knows me personally knows what I do and they are 100% supportive of it....those that aren't are no longer part of my life, because they were not true "friends" at all.

Three most common comments I get from people are:
1. "How's the website going???"
2. "You go GIRL!"
3. "Really?.....I'll check it out!"

Close 4th is "How was ______________ (fill in name of last convention)?"

Furthermore, I would just like to say that the way that we conduct ourselves personally reflects upon the industry as a whole. If we slink around acting ashamed of what we do it will give others the idea that even we believe that we are doing something wrong.

OMG.... July 5th.. I had to defend my son against the "Bling Daddy" in court! It was some crazy shit...

My Ex's lawyer came at me with pictures... the whole nine fucking yards. I had a good judge, and she said and I quote "being in the adult industry does not make one a bad parent".

I was lucky... and I got the custody I wanted! :thumbsup

I moved recently after neighbors in the gated community that I lived in for the last few years figured out who I was. I was told that one of the neighbors was so curious about what I did and why I kept to myself so much and why I was around in the daytime so often and why I had the occasional mini-skirted girls coming over my place that they went through my trash and found some Jim Gunn related mail and googled me.

So I moved to a house in a regular neighborhood with no guard gate or community association, I shred all my mail now and I started telling people that I am a freelance videographer for some reality tv shows. That explains my odd hours, explains why they might see me load camera gear into my vehicle and also explains why I might have the occasional pretty young girl over my house. If they press for details, I say that I am currently filming some aspiring Latin singer named Esmerelda for a pilot that might show up on Univision....

I don't care who knows what I do, generally I tell people just to see the look on their face and hear their response.

For those of you who say, "Go ahead and tell people, you shouldn't be ashamed of what you do" I will quote what I said in a previous thread about this subject. I'm sure Steve and some of the other Veterans understand what I am saying:

Quote:

I'm guessing you guys are still in your early 20's or younger.

Take a tip: Keep your mouth shut. You are an internet marketer.

Young people are more understanding than older ones. Once you get over 25 you will notice that stigma being detrimental to your professional life as well. You won't want to be doing adult all of your life. Or, you may want to diversify and the smut stigma WILL get in the way.

No one has to know what you do.

:pimp Yeah, it wasn't easy telling Mom... I don't exactly spread it around. It will get you points with certain chicks... and the unblinking awe of some fellas... :1orglaugh

This is true, but our country does not have the Bible-thumping lobby that the US has, which is good for us.

Most of the guys my age are quite amused when I mention what I do. They adopt a "he's the man" kind of attitude. I don't care too much for it, but it is the reaction. I guess it is the job everyone wants but doesn't get into it because they're afraid they're going to be socially stained for life.

If I just met someone and he looks conservative, I just say that I do Internet marketing. If I feel like I'm going to get a good reaction, I say that I do marketing in the adult industry. People are usually interested and they want to learn more.

One time, I picked up three girls from a bar downtown (don't even ask how that happened, I'm not even very good looking) and we were in the car. One of them asked what I did. Given the fact that two of them were twins and the third one was the older sister and we were heading to my house, I thought I could reply in an honest way. So I said, "I work in marketing in the porn business." We were at a red light and I was expecting the regular "wow" and "tell me more" but the three chicks just dove off the car. I'm talking about perfectly-timed doors opening and the girls running for their lives :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I didn't even bother to chase after them to explain. I closed the only door that they left open and went to another bar.

In general, when there's time, I try to sit down and explain some misconceptions that people may have. Some see it as eye openers, some think I'm bullshitting them.

Everyone in my family knows and excepts my choice of employment and
pretty much all my friends know too. If I encounter new ppl I have to get to know them first b4 telling them and in the mean time I am just a simple house wife to them. LOL
