you should ask your doctor if he minds those commericals though

they pay his morgage

fat people are scarry. unless its some bbws .lol

Brother Bilo 08-03-2007 09:04 AM

It's not easy for anyone to lose weight, it sucks. Have to eat healthy and workout, but if you are that overweight, it's worth it. Not to mention there are a thousand different diets people are hocking all over the world. It's not hard to see what works from some of them and put together a frankenstein diet. Or just stop eating greasy fast food.

Last time I was at my cardiologist, and was sitting there in the examination room waiting, there was a pile of "nutrition guides" on the desk. They were from general mills I believe. It was just a guide of all the sodium, calories and fat contained in their breakfast cereals. Lame. I know the pharmaceutical companies sell HARD to doctors in the US since it's private health care here, so you get nailed with commercials and shit all the time.

I have already told him that I want to get OFF all medication whenever it's possible. I have a checkup on Monday, and I'll be asking about it again.

So far he's given me about $450 in free samples of Plavix (30 pills cost $144), and so much free Lipitor that I havent had to buy any yet (since May 19th). He knows I dont have insurance, and I guess he assumes that means I'm dirt poor, hehe. So I'll take all the freebies until they run out..

He may prescribe things that he normally wouldnt have thought of, just based on someone asking him about some big new pill they saw on tv. But certainly not to me. Not unless it's absolutely required in his opinion, and I still ask why do I HAVE to do that!????

do you not see the irony there :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

what you mean is you do not want to pay for medication

Tom_PM 08-03-2007 09:17 AM

There's zero irony. I had a heart attack, and I had a stent placed in my heart. The Plavix prevents my blood from clotting the stent and killing me.

The Lipitor is to get cholesterol in line so less plaque is clogging my arteries. My diet has changed drastically since the attack, so I'm hoping I can get off the lipitor ASAP. I may be stuck on plavix for the rest of my life though.

I also take an aspirin a day, and lisinopril and metoprolol, both of which I believe I should be able to get off of. He's going to tell me on Monday I hope that I can let those expire.. I'm hoping!

I REALLY hate taking drugs :( Absolutely hate it!

you had a heart attack because you were unhealthy

the very thing being discussed in this thread

Just try going to the grocery store and only buying fruits and vegetables. And NOTHING ELSE.

And I'm not talking about things "from the produce section". I mean only whole fruits, whole vegetables. No pre-made "salads" with meat and cheese and crap! Just real food! Fresh herbs are permitted if you dont already grow them.

Guaranteed that you will lose weight, and be more healthy if you always shop that way. Even better if the food is grown locally.

I have yet to be able to do this myself, but goddammit I will one day
so even though you had a heart attack because you were unhealthy you still buy shit at the supermarket to eat

bring on coronary #2 :2 cents:

if you havent learnt now that you need to start wising up and eating better its going to take death to make you realize and have the self control you so desperatly need

MetaMan 08-03-2007 09:28 AM

FACT: look at sleazydream the fat ass sloth, if you are in the same group as him you need to hit the gym.

being fat is from being lazy.

Tom_PM 08-03-2007 09:35 AM

I had a heart attack because I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day, and sat at my computer for 16 hours a day or more and the rest of the time slept! lol

Yes the smoking and sedentary lifestyle made me unhealthy, no question about that. But my eating habits have been pretty damn good which all the doctors agreed with. I already eat whole grain wheat bread for example, and 1% milk, dont add sugar or salt to anything. Been using Splenda in my coffee for years and years instead of sugar. Etc.. the list goes on. The cause of my attack was absolutely attributed to my smoking and my sedentary lifestyle, plus family history.

There is a long history of heart disease in my family. My father died of a massive heart attack at my age (42), and my mother at 67 after a severe stroke.

About my post, yes I admitted that I havent bought ONLY what I said myself yet, and I bet you havent either, hehe. Not many people use produce stands these days, but we all probably should. However you will always find fresh fruit and vegetables in my house, and decent cereals with whole grains and low sugars.

You can try to pick apart my eating and such, but theres not much to find there. I was in a situation where it was operation and drugs, or death. Not hard to choose. Doesnt mean I have to like it though, or that my diet was bad.

If you're reading this and you smoke alot, sit at the computer a lot, and dont get off your ass and MOVE everyday, then you are in sorry shape. You should wake up and get off your butt and throw away all of your smokes and ashtrays immediately and continue, or START eating properly.

Tom_PM 08-03-2007 09:39 AM

Pick the most healthy eater you know and have them smoke 40 cigarettes a day, and sit in a chair for 16 hours while not sleeping, and they'll die too in a couple of years.

A statistic I saw on the news ays 75% of North Americans will be obese by the year 2015.

I think it's already around 50%.

Fat people suck dick. They are a burden on society and employers. Employers that provide heath insurance have to pay higher rates because you can't put down a damn BigMac.

You get Handicap parking spots because you can't get your asses (collectively) off the damn couch. 82% of the people on welfare in the US (according to the WSJ) are overweight, which means instead of having the potholes getting fixed with my taxes, in my town, I am paying for your fat ass.

I know, Im a dick, but at least I'm honest.

I could not agree more. What makes me laugh is the obese woman saying in this thread that she eats SIX times a day' but that she does more gym and eats more healthy than fit people. It's hilarious :1orglaugh

BTW, if her overweight problem is genetic, then there is no way to get out of it by doing gym or eating 'healthier'. Turn to a REAL doctor not a gym owner for advice. Genetic obesity is an illness!

tranza 08-03-2007 10:40 AM

This thread could get huge.

Quite a lot of webmaters are very fat...

Not me though... :)

Eating 5 or 6 times a day is better than 3. Smaller portions every 2-3 hours. It keeps your metabolism going faster and since you eat less, you don't over-eat so you usually burn every calories you ate without producing fat reserves.

Exactly. It keeps your blood sugar regulated, reduces cravings, prevents your body into hoarding calories because it isn't sure when it will get more nutrition, and most, if not all, personal trainers and nutritionists recommend eating 5 or 6 smaller portioned meals consisting of healthy food choices each day.

Clearly he didn't read the entire post, or he would have seen that I said that even a fat person trying to get fit will still look fat "for a while."

In any case, a tendency for obesity has been passed down to me, but I know my lifestyle choices have been what made me this overweight, and I've been successful losing fat before, but when I let myself get caught up in the chaos of working FT, college PT, raising four kids, running a household, running a business, and repairing a marriage, I let myself slip back to the bottom of the list and I at least stalled, if not backslid.

It is damn hard. Not so much the actual physical exertion, and not even so much the change in diet, but the hardest part for me is putting myself up in the top of my priority list, no matter how hectic life gets. I will serve the people I love better in whatever role I have with them, be it mother, partner, friend, or whatever, if I am healthy, so I have to remind myself that taking care of me is doing for them, indirectly, to not let guilt that I am taking time and energy away from them get me off track.

Anyway, I'm just going on and on. People will think that they think, and really, it doesn't matter to me at all, I just enjoy a conversation when someone says something that moves me in some way, even if it's a debate.:winkwink:
