How much are you willing to spend? If you are doing it for live shows don't do the little POS webcam thing. Get a decent camera with a firewire hookup. anywhere from 70-2000. Give us an idea of what your budget is and what your application is for.

Hi Rat. My budget is like between $200-$500. I'm going to be shooting the material myself. No help from anyone. It's mostly going to be indoor work.

Very fuckin nice! Can you send me a copy of one of the pics you too with it, so I can get an idea of how good it really is? I read the reviews and it sounds kick ass. Thanks.

I want to get this right, is this for strictly still pictures or video? Maybe I was thrown off with the whole webcam thing.

Playa, BeerBust03 is a babe, not a buddy.

yeah, I was confused too, we use those for the live feeds. quality is only so-so compared to a real digital picture camera.

Hey Rat my hero. It's going to be used for both actually. I will need something for both. But mainly I will be doing stills of myself. I hope that gives everyone a better idea of what I'm looking for.

Did you mean to say "what I'm looking as". Put off your pants and see how do you look like. Simple.

for webcam use the canon VC-C4/R
It has zoom, color correction and swindle with remote control so the webcambabe can control the view herself. Its what we use. Will cost you around $800

No I was referencing the camera. But thank you for that eloqent reply. Take a look at my post again. I'm looking for a camera, to take my own still pictures. I'm looking lovely indeed if that's what you mean. If you want a pic of me when I do get my camera I'm set you up with my stupid ass paypal account and you can pay for a gallery.

If you want to get the *most* out of your equipment... use a regular video camera in conjunction with a tv capable vidcard, you can run it thru a vcr to see how it appears on your tv as it tapes (you get a better idea on how to do what it is you do)

The perk to that is, low price for good quality, remote with zoom and bunches of other things. Digi video cams have a lower quality to a degree still. Then you can edit out of the tape what you want for clips. The regular videocam also puts on a great live webcast.

And for stills... check out the Olymbus line of 'Z'... I think they are up to like 6050z or so. They are absolutely as good as canon, sony etc etc and alot more reasonable. We were looking at a 2000 dollar camera (Canon AND Sony's) and the salesguy said look at this one... an Olympus. We went Olympus and have never even looked back. The Camera store workers said Olympus was a top camera as well when we went for some other things there (National Camera Chain).

Hope that helps

the VC-C4/R does all that and as a plus you have the remote control to control the movement and zoom of the cam
