Blackberry vs. Blackjack

Hey gang, im about to purchase a new cell and need some opinions.

Im aiming towards a BlackJack.... the only problem is that i've heard that it really sucks up battery juice. I guess that is why they provide two batteries.

Im also thinking about the Blackberry pearl, it looks more sturdy, but im not used to it's features.

Can anyone give any thoughts... especially if u own one of the two?

Thanks.

But if you decide to go with the BlackJack, Mayor has one he'll sell you that he used for like 2weeks then found out it didn't work in Thailand and got the Dash...

I like that the blackjack (I600 here) works also with IMAP/pop3 etc. For the blackjerry, you need a special mailserver no?

Uncertain on that. The main reason i am leaing towards a blackjack is that I work with a lot of office products and worked with Windows mobile before.

Im just wondering the ease of use/learning curve of a blackberry. Cuz either way, i get to try it out for 30 days.

No reason the BlackJack shouldn't work anywhere the Dash does in Thailand. There's a good chance this was some external issue (config, sim lock, unregistered device, etc.)

Yes on the regular battery it does, but Cingular sent me an extended battery for free and it lasts a lot longer...........

I believe if you buy a blackjack now you get both a normal and extended battery. When I bought mine about a year ago it only came with the 2 normal batteries.

I have used both a Blackberry and a Blackjack, navigating around Windows Mobile is a lot easier for me just because it's what I am use too.

The Blackjack does indeed suck up battery juice. Especially if you're using it constantly-checking email, looking at websites, etc. It really kind of sucks. I thought I would prefer the qwerty keyboard, but the buttons are so small that it's a little awkward. I'm constantly fat-thumbing it. I kind of want a new phone. It is really cool being able to check my work email from anywhere, but overall I am not that impressed with the Blackjack.

All American carriers have data plans that come with Unlimited Data & BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) packaged in. Usually an additional $20 a month on top of your voice plan.

The Blackberry DOES handle IMAP/Pop3 and you can apply filters to them. On top of that you get the luxury of INSTANT Push E-Mail that only the Blackberry offers. Other companies might claim true push e-mail but they are light years behind what RIM has.

I like to take my Pop3 mail, filter it and forward the most important to my Blackberry.net email which essentially provides me with instant Pop3 email with no need to pull. Instant POP3 isn't possible on any other device.

So the only advantage I see in getting the Blackberry is E-Mail. E-Mail is what makes it the industry standard for most major corporations...it's what makes the Blackberry a Crackberry.

Thanks guys.... keep the comments coming. I don't e-mail much in regards thru a cell phone, but yeah their Push E-mail rocks.

Blackberry, but not the pearl...

Been a BlackBerry user for 4 years. I recommend the Blackberry hands down over the Blackjack, but don't get the pearl. It does not have a full keyboard, and it will drive you crazy.

Just my two cents.

I had a 7510 & 7520 (Full QWERTY) with Nextel for about 2 years and then switched to the Pearl. I had a Pearl for just about a year and I adjusted and got used to the Sure Type pretty quickly. I could type without looking and probably averaged around 50wpm or more.

I just recently purchased a Blackberry 8800 to replace my Pearl and it actually took me about a month to finally get used to the QWERTY keyboard again.

So I think with patience there really is no advantage or disadvantage to the QWERTY vs Sure Type. With the exception of entering custom abbreviations or new words for the first time.

Well I wouldn't really need Push email. So you are saying a blackjerry will work with NORMAL pop3/imap as well? I know for 'normal' email you don't need a special blackberry server plan...(so I can use a blackjerry, I just will miss the push email function)

Thanks

I had the BlackJack and was happy with it overall but the battery was an absolute killer. I also didn't like the text interface as it was more like mail vs. IM (which is common). I started trying out the BlackBerry 8800 after Xbiz (a few here know why) and loved it. I went out last night and bought the BlackBerry Curve (gotta have a camera phone ;) )

So, from someone who's had both....I highly recommend the BlackBerry.
