quick photoshop question

quick question...how do I fade an image...I want to fade the left side of a picture so it blends into a background, and I cant figure it out.
Please help

rosey .. set your background to whatever you want it to be, then use the gradient tool, and set it to go from regular to transparent on the layer that you want to "fade" into the background..

select one half of it and 'feather selection' by a few pixels .. delete.. voila
you could also use a gradient transparency mask on the layer of the pic u want to fade..

Easier still to apply a layer mask to the image to be faded and use your gradient tool on the mask.

make a new layer, make a selection, paintbucket that selection whatever color you want to fade into BG, then make another selection over like half of the painted area, choose select>feather and put like 25, then delete.
