Moving a Hot Tub
Whats the approx weight of a typical empty hot tub (shell, wooden frame around it, nothing special)? Can I move this thing with 3-4 guys? It's been empty for a while, do I need to remove the filter equipment inside first, or leave it in?

Hmmm, not sure. We had to take a sledgehammer to a cast iron bath a few weeks back.
Between 4 of us we couldn't even get it off the ground lol... |

How many people can fit in the tub? 5-7 person tub and you might need a few people.
Easiest way to move them is to roll them up on their side, pop it up on a dolly of some sort and roll it on out of there. I worked at a Pool and Spa place while in college. I've almost killed myself a few times moving tubs. |

I would hire a company that installs them to move it. I know it took 4 guys to move mine, when installed.

Good choice. that way, if they break something, they have to fix it.

I'm actually moving it to my warehouse for temp storage, I was just going to cruise down to Home Depot, find some help, fill my U-haul and then tow it away.

I JUST finished doing this on Sunday. What a friggin nightmare.
If you aren't worried about cash too much, hire a specialty spa mover, it will make all the difference in the world. They have all the right equipment, they know what parts to disconnect and secure, they lay it right down on the pad for you light as a feather... shit the truck even had a special hot tub cover carrier on the roof. It will run you $400 to $500 bucks, but I think its worth it. PS: The first company I was going to use had one of their crew members break his leg under a tub, so they cancelled my weekend move. SO I went to another company. Just goes to show you what can happen if that bitch lands on you. I think mine is 900 pounds empty. |

My friend bought a hot tub not too long ago through a friend of hers and they actually called a tow truck to move it from one house to another. It might not be the cheapest way to go but it certainly had a safe trip being chained by all four corners, and yes the filtration system/leather cover was removed for transport purposes.
Good luck... |
