Gingrich Predicts Clinton-Obama Ticket

Saw this on Drudge....

Gingrich Predicts Clinton-Obama Ticket

Jul 29, 11:17 AM (ET)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats will nominate Hillary Rodham Clinton for president in 2008 and Barack Obama will be her running mate, former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich predicts.

The GOP will have three "formidable" choices in Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson, said Gingrich, who is considering whether to get into the race.

Gingrich is ruling out John McCain's chances among the Republican contenders.

The Arizona senator "has taken positions so deeply at odds with his party's base that I don't see how he can get the nomination," Gingrich said Sunday in a broadcast interview.

Gingrich said he had dinner recently with Thompson, the former Tennessee senator and actor who has set up a political committee that allows him to raise money for a presidential bid. An official launch is likely in September, after the Labor Day holiday.

Gingrich said he expects Thompson will enter what is shaping up as a competitive race for the GOP nomination against Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, and Giuliani, a former New York City mayor.

"I think that either Mayor Giuliani or Governor Romney or Senator Thompson would be a very formidable opponent for what I expect will be a Clinton-Obama ticket, and I think that there's a possibility that will work," Gingrich said.

In the fall, Gingrich might decide to jump in, depending on how the Republican candidates are faring against Clinton, the New York senator.

"If there is a vacuum and if there's a real need for somebody to be prepared to debate Senator Clinton, then I would consider running. I think we'll know that in October," Gingrich said.

"But these three are serious people," Gingrich said, referring to Romney, Giuliani and Thompson. "They're working very hard. And if they can fill the vacuum, I don't feel any great need to run."

Gingrich spoke on "Fox News Sunday."

You get racial diversity and women's empowerment all rolled together with little experience and a lot of wrong ideas.

I've kind of thought this for a while. Obama is a good candidate, but I don't think he can overcome the power of the Clinton machine. There is one big thing a Clinton/Obama ticket would have and that is change. Every election people say there is no real choice, all the candidates are the same, well a woman and a black guy is something different from the typical rich white guy.

we have a female chancelor since 2 years now - and even if i didn't vote for her - and even though she's still ugly - i have to admit she's doing quite good. people get used to it - and compared to Bush even a monkey would be an improvement

The world is rather different from what it was 200, 100 or 50 years ago. In 1970, a female British PM would probably have seemed rather unlikely. Nine years later, it was reality. Same thing for Angela Merkel, Indira Gandhi, Michelle Bachelet, Tansu Çiller, etc.

I'm not too sure about Hillary's chances, but it really doesn't seem at all unlikely that the US will get a female president in the next few decades.

I'm afraid a lot of the world is well ahead of us in this regard, though, and will continue to be for a while longer.

Think about all the folks who regard Hilary as a total bitch. There are a lot of people who vehemently hate the woman, and I don't necessarily think all that hatred comes from the analysis and rejection of her stances on policy and policy making. Frankly, I think a lot of the hatred out there is baseless and due solely to the fact that she is a woman.

But you're right. Anything could happen. And I do hope I'm being unnecessarily pessimistic.

I think Edwards/Obama would be a better idea with a better chance of winning and getting the Dems back on top.

I do. It would manage to get a very large portion of the female vote, and possibly an even larger portion of the black vote. Add to that the people who would rather die than vote Republican (Bush created quite a few of those), and they'd have a decent shot.

Newt Gingrich calling Mitt Romney a "formidable" choice has to be one of the funniest things anyone has said in a long, long time. Hell, that empty suit is even dumber than the bozo currently living in the Whitehouse.

As for Clinton and Obama, if either of them get's the nomination they'll do the safe thing and balance the ticket with a white guy from the south.

So Gingrich predicts the obvious?? Obama has inexperience going against him and so being the VP will give him the experience and credibility to become president when Hillary's terms were over. Out of all the current candidates, I really can't see the party selecting anyone other than Hillary...

Republican candidates just seem like a mess to me. They all seem to have major problems.. But then again, the republican party just throws money at it and overcomes those problems.

Only difference this time is that it appears that Hillary has money.

Of course.. the damn elections are so far away that a shit load of things could change.

I'm trying to not to pay too muc attention to any of this and I could have told you this....

I don't have much respect for Hillary. Her husband was getting blow jobs in the Oval Office and she seems to be okay with this.

President Mitt Romney ... just can't see that happening. Giuliani and Thompson are serious contenders because they have name value and lord knows how much easier it is to be elected if you're a "celebrity".

But a Republican becoming Prez in 08, not a chance. Everyone seems to be so sick of Bush it'll will hurt the entire party. If ever there was a chance for a woman or a black man to get elected, this is the time - people want serious change, even if it means doing the what would have been unthinkable until now.

That bullshit logic, porn has done very well under democrats. They dont embrace us but they dont see adult porn as a priority. All big porn crack downs have been during Republican admins thats a fact.

As for Clinton and Obama, if either of them get's the nomination they'll do the safe thing and balance the ticket with a white guy from the south.
You really think Edwards is going to want to be the VP nominee again?

If ever there was a chance for a woman or a black man to get elected, this is the time - people want serious change, even if it means doing the what would have been unthinkable until now.
No way a Clinton/Obamma ticket wins in 08. So they win NY and Ill which both almost always vote Dem anyways. Big deal. For Dems to win they need to win some southern states. Let's see Hillary and a black dude. Which southern states are going to vote for that combo?

And Edwards/Richardson ticket would win and if Dems had brains they see that and vote Edwards in the primaries.

Never's a long time.

Typically, the only time you're absolutely wrong is if you speak in absolutes.

Besides, even on the short-term, I disagree with you - I feel we'll see a female president in our lifetime.

Werd Up. I'll take any Edwards running-mate, myself.

Edwards Vs. Ron Paul in '08!

Agree to disagree.

Edwards/Richardson wouldn't even make a blip on the map.
